Dragon always require belts change as well as DD Capstan Motor Cleaning and lubrication when it was not serviced recently. Sometimes it needs electronic adjustment to change the Speed differential between the capstans based on Tape Travel/wow /Flutter/ Frequency response etc as the Dried out Spool drive idler indicates very long storage. if the Dragon was not at all attended and stored, they need attention to certain Capacitors as well. In essence Dragon repair restoration is a time consuming (Labor intensive ) work with experience with Dragon service alone. This machine required clean up of the Transport after complete dismantling, Belts change and alignment with Calibration of Meter/Playback/Record as well as Tone Oscillator adjustments were done. Nakamichi Cassette Recorder work requires Nakamichi Gauges/ Alignment Cassettes along with High Bandwidth DMM and Nakamichi T100 analyzer. Nakamichi DR-1 Three Head Cassette Deck. This particular unit is part of my own stereo system. The DR-1 was the last 3 head, high-end cassette deck Nakamichi made. I rarely used this unit when it was new, and I havent turned it on many years. I just was never into tapes. I went to use it a few weeks ago and although it works in Rew/FF it does not work in Play. Thought of having the belts replaced, but there is no one local to do that work anymore, plus I never use it. So up for auction it goes. I removed the top cover and sure enough the thick belt thats visible from the top looking down has dissolved (picture #7). As previously stated, this deck only has a total of 10-25 hours of use. Hello, I’ve decided to go the separates route and parting with my Nakamichi Dragon. Paid over $3,500 for this three months ago. Practically new still. If you know Nakamichi you know the quality but if you don’t, check their site out. Highly reviewed and by far the best soundbar system period. I still have the system connected for any potential buyers near me to experience. This is a very heavy system. Around 150 pounds. I have the original box that I will ship it in.
