Description
Not many regular Naim lovers will know the NS01, thats because strictly speaker it belongs to the NaimNet umbrella of multiroom and custom install products, however when I worked in the industry I used to sell one of these a week! when the Uniti UPNP and NDX / NDS products came out we had to relay on the Unitiserve media server or NAS drive/computer. in my opinion they sounded terrible and the Unitiserve sounded O.K but was unreliable and the box size did not match my NDS at the time and the Unitiserve had no in built back up, best of all the audio performance on the NS01 as a server is a huge improvement over anything I have heard, only equaled by the current Uniti Core but only when using certain SDD drives. The NS01 also has regular analogue output so can be used as a standalone system just like a HDX but sounds even better! however you cannot add an external power supply but I used this NS01 with a Powerline so my rips are top tier......... if you want better you will need an NDX 2 and use the NS01 as the server, thats what I did and even briefly with a ND555! The NS01 still beats any hi res file from what I have heard.Back in the day we used to play an NDS/XPS DR playing from a NAS which was like 10K up against the NS01 on its own playing the CD rips with a powerline 3.5k and it was more musical so we sold tonnes of em! I actually have two of them I love them so much......So why am I selling? I tried a Uniti Core with Samsung sdd drive/powerline and it sounded as good, maybe even a touch more detailed but the NS01 was smoother and perhaps more musical. And I now need to downsize my box count and its half the size of the NS01 and will match the new 300 series system that I have on order. This is great if you have lots of CDS as you can plug her up to a 282/200 and youve got a stunning 3 box system that wipes the floor with an NDX2/XPS evening playing tidal high res, trust me I have tried every single combo thats what we got paid to do back in the day (-:There is also a nifty video output and then using the remote you can select your music on screen or download the N-serve app and control it / view the music library from your iPad just like a Unitserve, its very flexible and even has internet radio built in. If you update the firmware you can also store your own music on there and convert a second library into 320KBS for your classic iPod....... best of all she runs two 2 TB drives in RAID configuration so you have a solid back up, with a little technical know how you can change the drives to SDD for even better performance and more storage. Please see my other listings for the rest of my system. I have had this from brand new (2013) never had a blip they are bombproof unlike anything else, they were built for high end multiroom fit and forget......not sure what shes worth but I have had to spend 3K on my new Core to make it sound as good with the right SDD and Powerline. sensible starting price!
