Fantastic example of the much desired NAD Series 20 3020 Mk I. 100% working perfectly. This amplifier is the original mark I of the original 3020 series 20. It includes an MM Phono input. This one is in great condition internally. Original RCA MJ2955/ 2N3055 power transistors still present. This amplifier looks amazing and has an extremely clean front panel. Very few hard to see marks and blemishes. The top casing in good condition. The bottom is unsightly, but its not rusty at all. Input connectors are 24K Gold plated as is the Phono earth connector. The speaker grab connectors have been upgraded to speaker posts which are more solid. The amplifier has been totally cleaned inside. These old amps need it - see last picture ! All potentiometers have been serviced (Volume, tone etc) and work with no crackles. ALL of the Electrolytic capacitors have been replaced including larger Power Supply Filter capacitors. It is imperative that these have all been replaced. Old capacitors of 40 years+ are well past their End Of Life. At best the old capacitors found in these amps today have values that are drifting and they will likely fail at some point. New multi-turn trimpots installed for Amp idle bias adjustment. DC offset and bias have been correctly set. Original RCA output transistors remounted on new Silicon thermal transfer pads, replacing old dried mica insulator/ thermal compound. All Solder joints have been checked. This amplifier has a really truly stunning sound quality guaranteed to impress. It is no surprise this is the most desirable version of the 3020 ! This NAD 3020 arrived with a constant output hum due to several failed Electrolytic capacitors in the Preamp Power Supply. It is all original except as upgraded below. The Motorola output transistors were all manufactured within the same month. Datecode 8039 The Power Supply caps have all been upgraded from 35V to 50V nichicon, Rubycon, Chemicon and Panasonic. The 4 Main caps are 50V nichicon FW Gold. The Phono Preamp Input and Output audio coupling caps are nichicon MUSE Bipolar. The other audio caps have all been upgraded to nichicon Fine Gold. A hefty 8A power switch replacement had already been installed and works good as new. Ive installed a set of Speaker Output Banana Jack/Binding Posts on the rear panel for easier/better connections than the Speaker Spring Terminal Block. Please see photos. I have upgraded the Power Amp Offset adjustments to multi-turn trimmers which are more precise and less likely to drift. I have re-soldered the rear RCA and DIN jacks, the front switches, controls, and headphone jack, and much of the main board itself. I then cleaned the solder side with Flux Remover and Alcohol. It looks better than new. Cosmetically, this unit is is very good condition with some scratches on top. Please see the last photo. This initial version is also identified by the separate Power Supply board mounted on the back panel, the Power transformer mounted on a bottom plate, and the 4 Main Caps located in the front left of the board. AFAIK, this is the version with the mystical layout artwork error that improves the sound quality ??? Please advise. FWIW, the second version of the 3020 Series 20 had a 6 transistor phono preamp and the 4 transistor control preamp topology used thereafter. The 3020A and thereafter then settled on a 4 transistor phono preamp, including a low noise version for MC cartridges on some units.

Who knew what power and sophistication lurked within the modest confines of the NAD 3125! It is clearly a Proton in disguise, with the telltale Power Transformer (last photo) and overall elegance of design. Schematically, the 3125 contains a Souped Up version of the original 3020 Power Amp design with Higher Voltage Main Rails and TWICE the Main Capacitance of the original 3020, 3020x and 3220PE spinoffs, as well as its own 7125 Receiver. Who knew? My favorite feature is the Bass EQ contour that extends the low end of almost any speaker by taking advantage of this High Power/Current capability. This is the second 3125 Ive serviced, both of which had many original ELNA Electrolytic caps that tested really bad, as in open or as a high value resistor. I have upgraded the Power Supply caps to nichicon, Panasonic, TDK and Chemicon. The 4 Main Caps are NIC. A single transistor Line Input Buffer and low noise OP-AMP design allows for unusually low value audio coupling and filter capacitors. As such, I have upgraded 3 pairs of Electrolytic audio coupling caps with Metal Film for non-polar operation and better performance. The other audio coupling pairs have been upgraded to Philips, ELNA BP, and nichicon MUSE BP. I have also upgraded the Power Amp Bias and Offset adjustments to multi-turn trimmers which are more precise and less likely to drift. I have re-soldered the rear RCA jacks, the front switches, controls, and headphone jack, and much of the main board itself. I then cleaned the solder side with Flux Remover and Alcohol. It looks better than new. The input select switches were showing signs of physical aging and deterioration, so I reinforced them with cable ties and several coats of craft glue. They are now as strong as ever. The original AC power plug has also been replaced, as the old one just looked shabby. Cosmetically, this unit is is very good condition with surface scratches here and there. Please see photos. The top cover and front panel are a single metal piece. The funky plastic side panels could easily be replaced by nice, stained wood panels, etc. Full refund within 60 days. Buyer pays return shipping.
