Who knew what power and sophistication lurked within the modest confines of the NAD 3125! It is clearly a Proton in disguise, with the telltale Power Transformer (last photo) and overall elegance of design. Schematically, the 3125 contains a Souped Up version of the original 3020 Power Amp design with Higher Voltage Main Rails and TWICE the Main Capacitance of the original 3020, 3020x and 3220PE spinoffs, as well as its own 7125 Receiver. Who knew? My favorite feature is the Bass EQ contour that extends the low end of almost any speaker by taking advantage of this High Power/Current capability. This is the second 3125 Ive serviced, both of which had many original ELNA Electrolytic caps that tested really bad, as in open or as a high value resistor. I have upgraded the Power Supply caps to nichicon, Panasonic, TDK and Chemicon. The 4 Main Caps are NIC. A single transistor Line Input Buffer and low noise OP-AMP design allows for unusually low value audio coupling and filter capacitors. As such, I have upgraded 3 pairs of Electrolytic audio coupling caps with Metal Film for non-polar operation and better performance. The other audio coupling pairs have been upgraded to Philips, ELNA BP, and nichicon MUSE BP. I have also upgraded the Power Amp Bias and Offset adjustments to multi-turn trimmers which are more precise and less likely to drift. I have re-soldered the rear RCA jacks, the front switches, controls, and headphone jack, and much of the main board itself. I then cleaned the solder side with Flux Remover and Alcohol. It looks better than new. The input select switches were showing signs of physical aging and deterioration, so I reinforced them with cable ties and several coats of craft glue. They are now as strong as ever. The original AC power plug has also been replaced, as the old one just looked shabby. Cosmetically, this unit is is very good condition with surface scratches here and there. Please see photos. The top cover and front panel are a single metal piece. The funky plastic side panels could easily be replaced by nice, stained wood panels, etc. Full refund within 60 days. Buyer pays return shipping. It turns on and is loud through the tape input and phonograph input however the cd/aux and Tuner inputs are functional just kind of quieter. I am unsure if this is the way it is intended to work or not. It is a beautiful amp as you can see from the pictures, it is missing the bass turning knob from the front with very minor scratches. Please see the pictures for more condition details. Overall the unit is in very good condition. This amp is listed AS IS for parts because of the issues listed above. You are bidding on an NAD 3125 integrated stereo receiver. This made in Japan unit from the mid 1980s is tested and working. This is a unique NAD model because most of them were not made in Japan, but this one was. This offers clean quality sound and simple controls in the classic NAD style. The unit has some small scratches and scuffs that can be seen in the photos. The power cord has a small and cleanly made repair. The unit is generally clean but has dust in some areas. All of the controls are working fully, and have no scratchiness. The receiver produces great clean sound at all volumes. Both tape and aux inputs were tested and work perfectly. Pair this with a quality set of speakers and an basic audio source and youve got a great quality and uncomplicated audio system. The clean design of NAD products is as good as it ever was.
