SONY MXD-D40 CD/MINIDISC PLAYER RECORDER (Partial Working) Basically an upgraded MXD-D4 with Type-R recording unit CD section doesn’t work. Problem with loading tray gear mechanism as being tight stuck and not engaging gears. I have to zip tied to lock down the loading tray from opening and make it stay in no disc loaded status (see pic). Reason being it will go into loop – Open, TOC reading, Close from front display and affect other functions. With CD section zip tied, Minidisc function can operate freely and independently. Also the front CD tray door cover is now loose. Minidisc section operate as normally without issue. But CD sync recording no longer possible. Recording to minidisc will be from either analog RCA or toslink optical connection. Just press the Input button on front for desired source when recording. You can try to fix the CD section or have a replacement tray unit (black) as seen in pic. Don’t think the optical pickup unit is the problem. The loading belt is not the issue as it was replaced along with the minidisc loading belt too prior to problem. This is now basically a MD player recorder without any CD functions. SELLING AS-IS for parts and not working simply of this fact regarding CD section.
