In those first few minutes I managed to test both the VHS player and the DVD player, of which both worked very well. I Googled the fault and apparently it is a common fault with this particular model. So it will turn on but then it will turn off and the only way to get it to turn on again is to unplug it from the mains and wait a few minutes!
