Studio Cable– typically used at this price e.g., Van Damme, Mogami etc) has 1.     Rely on “common mode noise rejection” circuitry at receiver and sender  2.     Higher capacitance due to additional conductors (usually 2 or 4) designed for use in equipment that is balanced at both ends and connected with 3 pin XLR plugs to be run at 4V. 3.     Usually have NO FOIL SHIELD, making it susceptible to high frequency interference when used in an unbalanced RCA cable for cartridges at tiny voltages 4.   Typically use PVC in the dielectric material, sometime combined with neoprene. This has a negative effect on sound quality. Cables designed for XLR studio cables (that and 4V signal) do not work well for these tiny signals from the cartridge.    In contrast single core coaxial cable has been used for over 100 years for everything from high frequency communications, musical instruments e.g. guitars, analogue video and of course audio where they have been the most common cable used for Radio Corporation of America plugs (RCA also called “phonos” as they were originally designed to connect a Phonograph (Record Player) to Radios of the time.      Burn In  As the signal from the cartridge is so small it will take years to burn in a tonearm cable so instead, I am sending a line level signal from my DAC through the cable to my pre-amp. This will burn in cable 10000x faster than a moving coil cartridge! While I have found that 24 hours of this does the trick for this premium cable, I extend this process to 48 hours. I am using the Tara Labs Cascade Burn in file – from their website… “The new CASCADE noise burn-in disc is a proprietary combination of white noise with frequency tone bursts and pink noise mixed at different levels. However, what makes it effective is a series of descending and ascending (cascading) multi-octave square sweeps for better and more complete results than any other “burn-in” discs that have been made to date.
