The signal is then sent to a 42Mhz DSP which performs the enhancement processing:Matching input word length to output word lengthPre-emphasis or De-emphasisDitherWhen used as a preamp, all sources must be digital, and any analog sources must be first run through an A/D Converter. In my system, the 518 is used between my (digital) preamp and surround sound processor. My preamp is the Meridian 562V, which has an A/D Converter built-in. The 518 allows you to set the input word-length: 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 bits, as well as the output word-length.The 518 allows 12 Virtual Sources (Only 4 physical inputs). It is possible to use all 12 sources using only 1 input! The 518 will retain the settings for each source on that one input. The 518 contains four operating modes:NormalStandbyType - This determines how the 518 is used (Preamp, Resolution Enhancer, or a Mastering Processor).Config - Where all communication and hardware options are setup.

Meridian 568.2 Digital Surround Processor Lovely condition apart from a scratch on the top glass (photographed). You really don’t notice this when sited. This was upgraded by a well known ex-Meridian employee from a 568, using a brand new upgrade PCB. I have owned the unit for 10 years and it has never let me down, unlike the G68 that replaced it! I’ve kept it as a back up for the last 3 years as I’ve had so many issues, but the G68 has, fingers crossed, been behaving, so I am reluctantly selling it on. Comes in original box with inserts and power lead. As a side note: since the upgrade, it’s displays “bad software” when you set the type, but not at any other time during use. The ex-employee said this was a known issue that was never fixed, but means nothing and doesn’t not impact use / sound / operation in anyway. I had it upgraded ~ 6 years ago so I am 100% confident on this.
