The unit is clean and sounds really nice, however it is a bit temperamental and heres what I can tell you following thorough testing:Sometimes the tray re-opens after it closes, but after 1-2 attempts it will stay closedDisc TOC is read with no issuesThe unit will playback, pause, stop and go forward / back tracks with both the front panel controls as well as the remote controlAfter a few minutes of playback, theres a little bit of audio distortion that can be heard sporadically. Its not all of the time, but it is worth calling out. The distortion sounds like digital jitter if that helps.Once in a while the Damaged Disc light will come on - but after a power cycle, the same disc will play just fineSo for someone who is handy with vintage CD players, these might be easy issues to fix. However, you could use the CD player as is if you dont mind the occasional annoyances. The CD player includes the original manual and the HR2 remote control which is functional. I shot a video of a few operations so you can see that its working. The CD player is very well packaged and double boxed with plenty of protection to ensure a safe arrival. This McIntosh CD player was sent to a technician with 40+ years experience to review. Here are his comments: It powers up with no problem. The unit is operational, motor works fine. The sound does not come on. Using his years of experience he took a blow dryer (really he did) and heated the chip and crystal that can be seen in the last picture, and the CD player started playing, there was sound. He demonstrated this for me. Unbelievable. The functions work, FF, REV, Pause, Repeat, etc. The remote control appears to be unused. It works fine, no issues detected. Once it was started it would play until he turned it off. Also if played and turned off and then back on it would play. When it would be turned off and sit, he had to use the hair dryer. The chip, SAA7000 and crystal, 04561.539 he feels should be replaced and that should take care of the problem. No guarantees. There you have it. Thank you for looking.
