This is a head amp. It allows an MC cartridge to be used with a MM phono stage or preamplifier. It does not amplify the signal enough to be used alone. Great for low output MC cartridges. It has some previous battery corrosion (as pictured) but it works perfectly. The head of one screw previously snapped off and I have not attempted to extract it yet. I have a new preamplifier which will handle MC cartridges on its own (although it doesn’t have the gain of the JC-1) so I’m letting this go. This is an all original vintage component. As such component failure cannot be predicted and I make no guarantees that it sounds as good as it once did. I have had issues in the past with buyers using the the return policy as a test drive. You are bidding on an excellent original condition example of the Mark Levinson ML-1 Stereo Preamplifier, with the rare optional moving coil phono module. Also included is the PLS-150 external power supply. I believe this is a second owner piece. It has been with the current owner since the early 1980s. I spent time listening to it in those days, so I can verify that fact. They moved on to other gear, and this unit has been stored for some time. I had it powered up for at least a week, listening to it periodically to verify operation, and heard no issues. There are a couple of switches that could use a bit of a clean. NOTE: It appears that Phono 2 was wired directly to the input of the MC phono module. This was done in the 1980s or earlier. Probably done to reduce signal path, and avoid the phono selector switch. Not sure if this was a factory or user mod. Could be reversed easily if desired. Workmanship quality is good. Just an FYI. Also included is a selection of interconnect cables that have had RCA connectors added to one end, so you can connect all of your current gear to the ML-1 without having to worry about adapters.
