Krell KRC-3 preamplifier, in excellent used condition. This is a highly prized and rare preamp from Krells heyday in the mid 1990s. More prosaically, equipment of this vintage has either been fairly recently recapped, or probably needs to be. Krell preamps run pure Class A, and theres no off switch. This unit has been recently thoroughly serviced by George Meyer AV, an Authorized Krell Service and Repair dealer (see attached service invoice for details). I have attached a photo of the internals, post-service. Krells designer was reportedly particular about how his equipment looked on the inside as well as out. This example measures up on both counts. The KRC-3 is a classic line level preamp, with balanced in and output, as well as multiple single ended inputs and one output. Krells manual is available on-line, and is well worth a look. The amp has a useful mix of features, including a home theater bypass. I do not have the original remote. I will include an after market dedicated remote which provides access to all functions (I use and recommend a hub-based Harmony remote). No other equipment or cabling is included.

Testergebnisse : The Krell KSA-250 is a truly extraordinary piece of audio equipment. It is ruthlessly revealing of everything upstream and is, in this respect, the finest reference amplifier currently available. It will drive virtually any load, and is the first amplifier this listener has heard that successfully combines ultimate musical finesse with sheer dynamic brawn without sacrificing much along the way. While the KSA-250 does not quite measure up to the finest tube electronics in the area of harmonic accuracy, and falls somewhat short of the best solid-state in the ability to resolve vocal and instrumental attacks, it wins the prize in overall musical and sonic honesty. But if youre thinking about buying one of these, be darn sure that your front-end electronics are the very best, or else you may be disappointed. If youre in the market for a great amplifier (or even if youre not), you owe it to yourself to audition the KSA-250. It doesnt get much better than this, folks, so find the checkbook, put off painting the house until next year, and get to your local Krell dealer. Now, how am I going to explain to my wife that we need to buy a new amplifier... Downsides? I cant think of anything about the KRC-3 thats so debilitating that it could deprive the product of some sort of award for its bargain nature. Coming from an all-tube pre-amp, especially the GRAAF, an older Audio Research, or even a small budget tube design like a Trilogy 900 still leaves the listener with an awareness that you can get even richer, fatter, warmer sound. But youll probably pay for that with a loss of transparency or some artificial sweetening. To put it into perspective, the KRC-3 is a Krell pre-amp for those who found its predecessors too demanding, too forceful, too disciplinarian. The older Krells told you what to hear; the KRC-3 lets you relax. The older Krells were almost Teutonic; the KRC-3 speaks in a Latin tongue. Traditional Krells were hyper-analytical; this one just wants to party. In a nutshell? Its a Krell for music lovers who dont want to be bossed around. The relatively affordable price is merely a welcomed, unexpected extra. Now how about a matching Krell stereo 50-watter for the same price?
