That means when your amp is hooked up to this pair and then another brand at the exact same volume number (same watts output), this pair sounds about 50% louder than the other. 10 db doubles perceived sound. These are AMAZING front speakers or main speakers for music and they were tested just to be sure. The manual is included (pdf) which is for the Synergy line (SB is for Synergy Bookshelf). Not that theres much to operating speakers BUT speaker placement is the biggest factor in their sound. These speakers will be packed with an inch of foam minimum on all sides and between them.
