The XQ-1 was the smaller of the two bookshelf speakers under the XQ series. By adopting the Hypertweeter that was only available on the Reference series, audiophiles could now enjoy the same reference quality sound from their Reference series at a more affordable price point. One thing you will notice about the speakers is how the cabinet is not straight and “squared” away like most speakers. They are curved on all sides except the front and back which resulted in a less boxy sounding speaker that you would normally associate with flat surfaced bookshelf speakers. Bass is nice and tight and although not room shaking, is pretty sufficient for most room sizes (except the largest of rooms). The mids and highs is where everything comes together. Nicely detailed and pin-point precise, the XQ-1 won marks for an accurate reproduction of music and a seamless integration with its Hypertweeter and UNI-Q driver. All in all, the XQ-1 is a very good speaker that will not disappoint if you are looking for bookshelf speakers for under $2000.
