Durch die Entwicklung des weltweit ersten Hochtöners mit elektromagnetischer Induktion unter Verwendung des seltenen-Erden- und magnetisch starken Materials Samarium-Kobalt - indem es in einer Mehrfachkonfiguration verwendet wird - um eine Linienquelle für Hochfrequenzenergie zu erzeugen. Durch die Kombination dieser Faktoren mit einem hochinnovativen Ansatz für das Problem der präzisen Wiedergabe von Bassfrequenzen ohne Gehäuseresonanzspitze hat Infinity einen Lautsprecher geschaffen, der an den Grenzen der praktischen Lautsprechertechnologie liegt – und einzigartig ist. Der Samarium Cobalt EMIT (Elektromagnetischer Induktionshochtöner) wird in einer Mehrfachkonfigurationmit einer Höhe von 125 Zentimetern verwendet und bildet eine echte Linienquelle. Erzeugen einer tiefen, fächerförmigen Wellenfront aus Hochfrequenzenergie. Dies führt zu einer hervorragenden horizontalen Streuung an allen Stellen, an denen Zuhörer vernünftigerweise sitzen oder stehen um zuzuhören. Eine weitere Linienquelle im Mitteltonbereich besteht aus sechs hochauflösenden, belüfteten 3,8-Zentimeter-Kalottentreibern. Diese ungewöhnlich behandelte Gruppierung wurde unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Phasen- und Beschleunigungsfähigkeit entwickelt. Bis zur Entwicklung der Quantum Line Source waren alle Lautsprecherkonstruktionen mit geschlossenen Boxen mit einem inhärenten physikalischen Problem behaftet: der charakteristischen Resonanz eines Gehäuses mit der daraus resultierenden Gegen-EMF (elektromotorische Kraft) und der daraus resultierenden steigenden Impedanz. Lautsprecherdesigner waren gezwungen, Kompromisse bei der Effizienz oder der musikalischen Genauigkeit einzugehen (man denke nur an die verschleierte Mittelbasis und den trüben Bass des typischen Lautsprechers mit Akustikaufhängung). Nun ist ein Lausprecher zum ersten Mal von dieser Einschränkung befreit. Die Quantum Line Source ist höchstwahrscheinlich der musikalisch präziseste Lautsprecher, der je hergestellt wurde Die QLS 1 ist ein 4-Wege-Turm mit 17 Treibern, bestehend aus 8 nach vorne abstrahlenden EMITs, 1 nach hinten abstrahlenden EMIT, 6 Soft-Dome-Mitteltönern, 1 Mittelbass-Kopplertreiber in Röhren-TL-Anordnung und 1 Watkins 12? Dual-Drive-Tieftöner (Polykegel). Laut der damaligen Literatur von Infinity verwendet die QLS ein phasenausgerichtetes passives Crossover-Netzwerk und ist in der Lage, einen Frequenzgang von 18 Hz bis 32 kHz +/- 3 dB zu erreichen. Jeder Turm ist etwa 1,80 m hoch und wiegt 190 lbs = 86 kg. Die Schränke bestehen aus 1-Zoll-Spanplatten mit Walnussfurnier darüber. Das hohe Gewicht der Lautsprecher ist auf die dicken und stark gedämpften Gehäuse zurückzuführen.
