This is a beautiful high end audiophile CD player with original box and packaging. I hooked it up to a receiver and tested it to be working (door opens/closes, cd plays, will REW/FF tracks etc)..BUT… All of the lights stay ON on the lcd panel. Nothing changes, flickers or shows “movement” when the cd plays, every light stays on (see pics, that is exactly what it looks like while playing) As is sale.

Icon Audio LA5 TX Pre-Amplifier Well made audio transformers can provide perfect coupling in a hi fi system. Free from the “mechanical” sound of solid state and the deficiencies of output capacitors, they can make your music reproduction much more vibrant and engaging. The heart of the LA5tx are two very special line level output transformers, developed “in house” over several years to give what we think is the best sound balance. If you use only a transformer for “gain” the results will vary depending upon the “power” (or source impedance) of the previous stage. If it is not “strong” the signal will start to distort, giving unstable results. In electronics you cannot get something for nothing! The LA5tx single 6SN7 valve “buffers” the input source, this way the LA5tx always presents a constant high impedance load, so the “strength” of the previous stage is irrelevant. The “strong” output of the 6SN7 then drives our transformer to give either a perfect “balanced” output as well as a phono RCA. So we feel that this is a better solution than just using a transformer alone. The LA5tx is designed for the very best transistor and valve power amplifiers where purity is required rather than starkness. The audio valve used is the 6SN7 double triode. This 1940 vintage valve has all the best characteristics for the job, and its larger size means long life and good stability. A high end pre amplifier must have the best power supply. The LA5tx has two chokes in double Pi configuration for well conditioned power giving superb smoothing for velvety inky black silence. The rectifier valve, which makes a surprising difference, is the excellent 274B. This outstanding Western Electric design is one of the finest sounding power valves.

California Audio Labs Icon MKII CD Player. I have owned it since new in the early 90s. Unit is functional but skips occasionally. This is either fixable or not, depending on your expertise. It is cosmetically good and comes with original box, manual, and remote! Can be refurbished or used for parts. The original packaging and remote are also useful for increasing the value of refurbished units.

If you are looking, you probably know what this is. it is named the Icon but who knew it would be so Iconic. Im not gong to go on with a big description. I already sold this on eBay and It was returned to me. the buyer said it was weak in the left channel. I have tried to find weakness in the left channel but I cannot. My associated equipment is a $3000 Lin Amp which went into a luminous audio preamp with the walker upgrade and every upgrade imaginable. I am telling you this so that you will be informed. the guy got through many other bidders to get this so I do believe he was being honest I just cant find any weakness in any channel. however, you should buy this as if there is weakness in a channel, when I sell this I do not want it back. If there is a weakness in a channel it is almost certainly an output capacitor. I am Starting the bidding low and if it sells for that then so be it. I also just sold my Fathers Flagship Yamaha receiver for him. it weighed a million pounds and was well over $2000 new. the buyer received it and then wanted to return it. I was so frustrated I just told him to keep it and refunded him. I hope someone can use this. P.S for the last 2 years I have used it as a transport it has annihilated every other transport I have tried up to $1000

The valve output stage gives a lovely full and detailed sound. It’s a joy to use with a smooth top loading mechanism and lovely metal remote control. Nice set of 4 RCA 6F8-G tubes. Tested on my Calibrated Hickok 539-C. # are on tubes, 2850, 2800 2250, 2350 2000, 2000 2300, 2200 Mu. Reject is 1700. Replacing Icon’s earlier, more expensive CDX1, the CDX2 has been specifically designed to deliver comparable sonics but at a lower, mid-range price.The CDX2 features the latest 192kHz 24bit upsampling technology for high resolution. The CDX2 also uses an all triode valve class A output stage using T J Full Music or original Mullard valves. Attention has been paid to the construction which makes it a hefty 9kg. The digital and analogue circuitry is hand-wired using full sized high quality components.Externally, the CDX2 features a top-loading mechanism, avoiding the usual slide-out drawer and thereby improving rigidity. A heavier alloy clamp also acts as a flywheel to increase rotational stability during playback.
