Rare Pristine Working Hammarlund HQ-100AC Shortwave and Ham Radio Receiver with a BFO + 24 Hour Clock. Rare because it has a 24-hour clock and an independent BFO for receiving CW (code) and SSB. Note all HQ-100s do not have an independent BFO. This receiver has a fine working BFO - useful for SSB as well as CW reception. I must say, this receiver is a delight to use, accurate and smooth tuning, nice working BFO and the Q-Multiplier really works very well, too. Very sensitive with complete, and continuous, coverage from the lower end of the broadcast band all the way up to 30 MHz. It is sensitive and pulls in all ham bands nicely (as daily propagation conditions allow), and lots of local CB traffic on 11-meters. I hear stations, depending on the time of day, from all-around the world, so it is an ideal SWL radio as well as ham receiver. Radio is very clean, and works on all bands as per manual (original copy is provided). I have made a few upgrades: added a 100KC crystal calibrator (toggle switch is on rear panel). I added a safety fuse to the 110 VAC line (shown in one of the photos), and for user convenience an extra RCA speaker output connector. I also added extra antenna input connectors (a BNC and an RCA) shown in several photos. Tested all tubes and replaced any marginal ones, upgraded electrolytics with Hayseed Kit, and replaced AVC switch with new USA made toggle switch. DeOxit on all contacts, and general cleaning all around. This radio is very beautiful (looks almost factory new), with only one tiny (1/8) uncorrected paint blemish on the top of the cabinet (shown in photo). I am a ham operator (W3MAV) since the mid-50s, and have been collecting these smaller 1950s Hammarlund receivers for quite a while. This is one my daily one, and the best HQ-100A I have owned, although I still have a working 100% mint HQ-100 with 12-hr clock in my office (anyone interested?). This is the granddaddy of all SP-600 manuals. Radio Set SCR-244-D And Radio Receivers R-274A/FRR, R-274C/FRR, R-320A/FRC, R-483/FRR, and R-483A/FRR 1953 over 200p. This summarizes the state of the four major SP-600 designs as of 1953. It does NOT include the JX-17 diversity receiver, for instance. It also does not include the receivers with the direction finder modification that allows one to defeat the AVC on the TRF stages. In some ways, these early receivers represent the original design from the engineers, and can be considered the most clean and smooth-operating receivers in the line. The durability of the design is such that it was produced over almost 20 years with mostly minor modifications. These models cover up to about the JX-14 (without the direction-finder models).THIS REPRINT INCLUDES THE HARD-TO-FIND TM11-851 SUPPLEMENT that describes the R-620 recreiver. This is a Vintage Hammarlund Air Variable differential Capacitor HFBD-50-C. This is an open Box NOS Hammarlund capacitor and has never been used or soldered to. This is a two section (50pf each section) Differential insulated shaft variable capacitor. The rotor of the two capacitors is common and insulated from ground or from the mounting hardware. There is 1.5 inch insulating phenolic 1/4 inch shaft.These are very rare capacitors and hard to finds today.
