The original owner told me it was a factory wired unit that he purchased new at a dealer. These amplifiers have an excellent reputation and compare favorably to modern amps: less than .02% THD at any power up to 100 watts with both channels driven, 20-20,000Hz. IM distortion is less then .005 % under the same conditions. Sold as is because of age. Parts are readily available for these as you can see on here. People frequently modify them, but as noted above the factory specs are excellent. This was in use until several weeks ago and I am selling to downsize. The included manual is something I downloaded and printed off the web. Shipping will probably be high, it is 26 lbs. and will be well boxed. If you are in the DFW area, local pickup would be fine.

Audio by Van Alstine Omega III 250 based on Hafler DH 200. This is a later version of the complete rebuild by Audio By Van Alstine. I have recapped the unit with the exception of two non polar caps. The grounding scheme has been redone using a five lug terminal strip. Fewer wires thus go to the ground buss wire between the two big caps, a source of hum. The big 10,000 mfd caps are from Dynaco Dan. Smaller caps are Nichicon, 10 caps were replaced. The case looks good from the front, there is some old shipping damage on the back of the fins on one side, some damage to the same side bottom of the case. The bottom damage was (mostly) flattened with some wood blocks and a big screw clamp. I had this in my system for several weeks, very impressive amp which deserves the best preamp, speakers and sources. This sale is the the lower 48 states only. I will not sell or ship overseas. I have a heavy duty double box for the item, the fins will be protected with cardboard surrounds. The amp will be bubble wrapped and tight in the box but with flexible packing materials. On Sep-07-23 at 04:56:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Added note: Bidders should be aware that the amp produces a low-volume zing sound through one channel on shut down. This is common to other AVA conversions of this amp. Recapping did not eliminate this quirk. The B+ and B- voltages are 61 volts, zero DC at loudspeaker terminals. I left it on all the time. The power cord has been replaced with a much larger polarized version.

Recapped with 105C capacitors, nichicon muse for the input capacitors There is a 100uf buffer capacitor for the power rails, right at the MOSFET output devices themselves. This is good, as the original design has the rails fused, and then the rail voltage goes to the MOSFET devices.This layout causes odd harmonic distortion to spike as the fuse element fluctuates dynamically (all odd order harmonics when fuse elements are in use) , and then the feedback circuit is constantly compensating for this. This is bad. very bad. It makes for false gritty high frequencies and detail, due to the constant micro correction of odd harmonics by said feedback network. TRo fix that, or mitigate it tremendously, I put those 100uf, 100V capacitors right at the output devices themselves. Youll see them right behind the circuit boards, between the circuit board and the Heat sinks. the rest of the capacitors are 105C capacitors are are, of course, orignal uf values. the main power supply capacitors come from a low hour but dead Panasonic Ramsa wp-9220 200 watt per channel power amp, which had tremendous current drive, relatively speaking. These capacitors are probably Elnas best and are probably from their own audiophile range of capacitors. They are totally non magnetic, indicating that they tried their best to make their best capacitors, for audio. These capacitors (measured) have tremendous current capacity, and very low internal impedance. They measure the full rated 20,000uf each, which is actually kind of unusual, of youve ever spent time measuring capacitors. Some amount lower than spec is what is normal, even for brand new capacitors. For used capacitors to measure that crazy good, is unusual. So, not just some stock upgrade, but a high quality audiophile upgrade. This high uf measurement also means they have lots of life left in them. the originals were down below 4500uf each (rated 10,000uf), and were dried completely out. I painted the top and you can see where the label was taped over and then the paint around it. It had a little rust...so I cleaned that up with a light spraying. lots of dust so no white specks, actually. Photo makes it look that way. This is a nice sounding amp. Plug and play.

hafler amplifier. Hafler DH-200 is a 100 watts-per-channel MOSFET class AB stereo power amplifier. MOSFETs are solid-state devices that work on principals more similar to vacuum tubes than bipolar transistors — and it sounds great! This amp was upgraded in 2021 35 years ago when the DH-200 was introduced, it astounded the world in having performance so high that it exceeded the abilities of most laboratory equipment of its day. It was also reasonably priced, making this Hafler amplifier astounding both for its incredible performance and unheard of price. This amplifier is from the very pinnacle of home High Fidelity. Products got better and better ever since home amplifiers were invented in the 1920s, but video took over home entertainment by the late 1980s, and home Hi-Fi equipment never evolved past this stage. Newer Hafler amplifiers, and the home audio market in general, has been neglected for lack of interest ever since the VCR became affordable to everyone in the late 1980s. There are newer amplifiers, but few are better than this Hafler DH-200. David Hafler was one of the founders of Dynaco in 1954, and started the Hafler company in 1977. It's a traditional class AB linear power amplifier in a sheet metal steel case. It has a traditional unregulated linear power supply with a big power transformer in the middle of the case, a bridge rectifier and two 10,000 µF 75V capacitors on which I measure ±55 VDC. The loose regulation of the power supply gives it much greater burst power than continuous (perfect for music), and also means that power output doesn't completely double as speaker impedance halves. It has eight power MOSFETs (4 per channel) in TO-3 packages mounted to two big anodized aluminum heat sinks on opposite sides of the case. There's a neon pilot light in the power switch as well as a yellow overtemperatgure light on the front. The DH-200 has one 5 ampere 3AG slow-blow power-input fuse, and 5A 3AG fast-blow fuses on the B+ and B- rails of each of the two power amp modules. It has speaker fuses to protect your speakers from you doing something stupid. Most amplifiers don't have speaker fuses.
