They have always been crossed over at 80 Hz to subwoofers, and I listen at moderate volume, so the drivers have not been driven very hard. Along with pictures, you will find distortion and frequency response measurements made just before they were pulled out of my system. They show intact frequency response and low distortion. The speakers are in excellent shape both acoustically and cosmetically. Like other Golden Ear speakers, they have wide dispersion and a huge soundstage. Stereophile concluded: GoldenEars Triton Five Tower appears to be another well-engineered loudspeaker…offering excellent measured performance at an affordable price. You are bidding on a pair of Triton 5s. I am the original owner; the speakers have been used as the front pair in a small home theatre. They have always been crossed over at 80 Hz to subwoofers, and I listen at moderate volume, so the drivers have not been driven very hard. Along with pictures, you will find distortion and frequency response measurements made just before they were pulled out of my system. They show intact frequency response and low distortion. The speakers are in excellent shape both acoustically and cosmetically. Like other Golden Ear speakers, they have wide dispersion and a huge soundstage. Stereophile concluded: GoldenEars Triton Five Tower appears to be another well-engineered loudspeaker…offering excellent measured performance at an affordable price. A review from Soundstage Access concluded: a true high-end speaker at a true entry-level price. It receives my highest recommendation. The speaker features dual 6” bass/midrange drivers, a Heil-type ribbon tweeter, and four 8” passive radiators. Golden Ear claims a frequency response of 26-35,000 Hz, although Stereophile measurements show -6 dB around 40 Hz. The sensitivity is a high 90 dB, so they do not demand much amplifier power. However, the impedance is 4 ohms, so ensure your receiver or amp is rated for 4-ohm loads. Golden Ear recommends 15 to 400 watts per channel. If you are unfamiliar with Golden Ear, most of their speakers are wrapped in black fabric on all four sides with glossy plastic tops and bases. They are unobtrusive and blend in well with most décor. Golden Ear makes tower speakers with built-in powered subwoofers, but this is not one of those models. This is their top passive model and is currently in production. The cabinet is tapered, so if you ignore the base, they are about 6-5/8” wide at the front and 8-1/8” at the rear. With the integrated base, they measure 11-1/16 W x 44-1/2 H x 16-9/16 D. In other words, they appear tall and slim but deep. I have the original boxes and packing material but am reluctant to ship them, so these are for local pickup only. If they don’t sell locally, I may start another auction that offers shipping.
