SEE PICTURES FOR ALL OF THE DETAILS. THE AUTOMATIC ARM LIFT & SET ON RECORD MECHANISM STOPPED WORKING BEFORE I PACKED IT UP TO MOVE IN 2009. I DID NOT INVESTIGATE THE REASON WHY AT THAT TIME. I JUST MANUALLY LIFTED THE ARM AND PLACED IT ON THE RECORD & AND LIFTED THE ARM OFF AT THE END OF THE RECORD PLAYING. THE RED ARROW I PUT INTO THE PICTURE OF THE MECHANISM UNDER THE TURNTABLE…POINTS TO THE BROKEN WHITE PLASTIC PART….THAT I BELIEVE IS THE REASON FOR NOT OPERATING AUTOMATICALLY? I HAVE NOT INVESTIGATED TO BE SURE. NOT TESTED: BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKED PROPERLY WHEN I PACKED UP IN 2009. DUST COVER: DURING THE MOVE….PRESSURE ON THE TOP OF THE MOVING CARTON…BROKE THE TABS ON THE BACK OF THE DUST COVER. TODAY I USED THE “UV Activated Glue” TO EASILY FIX THE TWO TABS. THE FIX IS VERY STRONG!! I CLEANED THE FRACTURE LINES WITH A RAZOR BLADE. LOOKS GREAT!!! THE RED MARKER ARROWS SHOW WHERE THE REPAIRS WERE MADE. DUST COVER POLISHING: I USED “BRASSO” brass polish all over the dust cover….to polish out the fine scratches that normal handling caused to accumulate over the seven years mostly used in my dorm rooms. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE DUST COVER. I know that further polishing would improve it even more! I stopped when I had removed the fine scratches….to the level of NOT CATCHING MY EYES……from a viewing distance of four feet. THE GARRARD HAS BEEN IN A PLASTIC BAG IN CARTON STORAGE IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED HOME…..UNTIL JUST RECENTLY…..WHEN I KNEW IT WAS TIME TO PASS ALONG MY ELECTRONIC ITEMS. JUST LOOKING FOR A GOOD HOME WHERE THE GARRARD WILL BE USED AND APPRECIATED! I AM A GOOD PACKER. THE MOVING CARTON WAS MEANT TO BE ON THE TOP OF THE LOADED CARTON IN THE SELF MOVING U-HAUL TRUCK I DROVE. It was the ONLY broken item I packed and moved!!!
