Read the description carefully so you know exactly what you are bidding on. This listing is for a rare NOS (New Old Stock) PAIR of Foster / Fostex FE-8 FE8 dynamic loudspeaker drivers / woofers. These unique edgeless cone woofer-midrange drivers are unused and in their original cartons. These are very sought-after speakers (particularly in Japan, but I dont ship Internationally). This pair has no defects at all--they are UNUSED. The FE8 drivers are quite unique in design: The Pistonic edgeless cones (more below) have no outer surround, but they include a dual spider assembly housed in a cast aluminum frames to maintain precise voice coil alignment. These 8-inch diameter woofers have large Alnico magnets. The whole woofer-midrange speakers were built with highest quality materials throughout to match their heavy cast aluminum frames (baskets). As you can see in one photo, each speaker weighs approximately eight pounds. While digging around for additional information (some found in other languages), I discovered the FE-8 is similar in design to the Fostex SLE20W, SLE24W, and SLE34W woofers. The following excerpt is from a FOSTEX brochure that describes their edgeless cone SLE34W and SLE24W woofers (I recall both being components of the GZ2001 and GZ1001 printed-ribbon planar loudspeakers): ... articulate reproduction of the fundamentals. The cone surround, weak point of most cone woofers, is completely eliminated in the SLE34W and SLE24W. An acoustic low pass filter in the form of a slotted ring replaces the conventional cone surround. The voice coil / cone assembly is supported by push-pull, distortion-canceling double spiders. Employing also a super heat-resistant voice coil, this special synthetic material (SM) cone reproduces powerful and articulate low frequency sound--the fundamentals of music. Of particular note are the excellent transient response and low distortion--the perfect complement to the Printed Ribbon Planer Loudspeaker [end of description from product brochure]. Some known specifications include: Nominal impedance = 8 ohms; rated power = 30W, with music power = 80W; and frequency range = 60Hz to 2kHz.
