This. Thing. Boogies. The Exposure Super XVIII is a purely British amplifier, built much in the tradition of amps like the classic Anime NAP 250. And indeed, the audio circuitry is very similar to that of the old Naim chrome bumper amps. The Super XVIII features specially-made, Exposure-branded output transistors, and has a massive toroidal transformer as the basis of its heavy duty linear power supply. As a result, it puts out 75 watts per channel into 8 ohms, with plenty of current capability to drive even the most demanding speakers. The result is a sound that is full of verve and life, with the legendary pace, rhythm, and timing that British amplifiers are known for. The Super XVIII is one of the last amps Exposure founder John Farlowe oversaw. This particular example is in near-perfect condition. One notes that the amp was built in February of 1996, and was serviced in 2017. The audio boards have been fully re-capped, using audio-grade Panasonic and Nippon Chemi-Con electrolytic capacitors. The power transformer has been refastened and rewired to the power switch for 120v operation in North America, and the captive power cable re-terminated with a heavy duty hospital-grade plug. To top it off, the cover has been beautifully refinished to give the amp a like-new look. Note that the XLR jacks are NOT balanced, but wired for single-ended inputs. At the time, Exposure thought that XLR connectors sounded better, so theyre wired into the RCA jacks. You can only use one OR the other. Also note there are two left and right speaker outputs, and that they require the use of banana jacks. Priced to move; you wont find another like this at this price.
