These were returned because the foam on the backside of the cones had dried. I painted the backside of the cones to give them some extra weight. The last two pictures show what I did. You know you cant get original replacements from Energy unless you have some to turn in. Heres the original description: Youll see a picture of a complete speaker for reference only. This auction is for all the components that came from a pair of 1983 EPI T/E 100 Time/Energy Series speakers. All in pairs and all tested excellent. The 8 woofers will need to be re-foamed. Up for sale is this very nice pair of Energy E:XL Series Bookshelf Speakers in very nice condition. Made in Canada the quality is clearly seen in the cabinet design and quality of the drivers. Cosmetically they are in very good shape. Very minor scuffs and scratches, most of them in the bottom. Cabinets are well built and solid. One of the speakers at the base the vinyl is lifting off and on the other the speaker grill has three minor tears and its missing two legs on the right inside of the grill but it still sits tightly in position. Please look at all pictures for exact details. Both woofers have new dust caps being that the originals were flaking apart (this seems to be an issue with these speakers. The caps installed are an exact fit and are made of felt so they will last for quite a long time. Tested and working perfectly. All drivers are 100%. They put out very clean sound from such a small set of speakers. Bass is decent for the size of the driver, highs and mids are clear, sound stage spreads openly and it gets better with distance. Take into account that the enclosures are designed to be used upside down in case you decide to place them on stands or wall mount them, this disperses the high frequencies straight towards the listener making sound effects in movies better if you use them for that purpose, the grilles can be flipped 180 degrees with no issues; just thought this information might be useful. Coupled with a nice vintage or modern amplifier these speakers will deliver a very pleasant listening environment. Both woofers have been applied a coat of Sonax to protect and maintain the rubber surround. Cabinets have been thouroughly wiped using Murphy wood cleaning spray to preserve and clean the finish.
