Empire 2000E Cartridge w/ NOS Astatic “Shibata” Stylus This listing is for one used Empire 2000E cartridge. The cartridge was “checked” with an Ohmmeter & the results are posted in two of the photos. The readings are very close & have a difference of less than 0.1%. The included stylus is a Black NOS Astatic “Shibata”. (Photos 21 ~ 24 were taken from the Astatic NMR Series PDF file I have.) As you can see the package is stamped EM115-DQ. There are two styli listed in the catalog with that number. Someone marked over the 5 on the package with a 2. That matches both what is in the package, a black stylus, & what is listed in the catalog for the EM112-DQ - a black stylus. This stylus should have a bonded “Shibata” tip & a tracking force of 1 ~ 1¾ grams. It has a flip-down stylus guard. I picked up a Yamaha YP-211 in perfect shape. It came with an Empire 2000 cartridge and S2000E Stylus/Needle. That cartridge also had a broken stylus (missing the needle/tip). The previous owner must have had 2 needles and the one for sale must have been the reserve one.I have no way of knowing how many hours this one has. By the physical look of it, Id say not that much.I put condition as a 6 based on the exterior look of the cartridge and a 8 for the S2000E/I Type Needle but have no ability to use a microscope to check the stylus.The cart/stylus played a record with no issues.As with all things vintage, sold as is. Empire 2000E Mk3 MM Phono Cartridge Full left & right signal continuity, no twists or kinks in the cantilever, suspension is fine and the stylus tip looks spot-on when viewed under a stylus-tip magnifying glass. The last two pictures are from 1977 Hi-Fi Choice, where this cartridge received a ‘Recommended’ rating.
