Lot #143: Vintage Realistic Radio Shack Dynasound Cassette Tape Case with 15 Folk / Pop Music Tapes Comments: This vintage hard plastic case was probably made in the early 1990s and is in very condition. The cassette storage case was manufactured for Radio Shack by the Dynasound Organizer Division of Hartzell Manufacturing of Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Included are 15 cassette tapes which contain a mixture of folk and pop music. I did visually inspect each cassette to make sure they looked good and the pressure pads were in place. The audio cassettes have not been play-tested and are therefore sold as-is. It is possible that some of the tapes will not play well. Size: The tape case is a little over a foot long, about 4 1/2 inches wide and about 3 inches high. Construction Details: The storage case is made of shiny hard plastic in two pieces. The top/lid is dark but translucent. The bottom/tray piece is slotted to hold 15 cassettes in place in their outer cases. The Radio Shack logo on the top is all black but the border is lighter. Condition Notes: Please closely examine the many photos provided. The cassette tape holder shows a good bit of scuff wear from use but there is no significant damage. I dont see any cracks. The audio cassettes included are sold as-is and have not been tested. Some may be defective (but I expect that most, if not all, should play fine). There is writing on the J-cards on most of these cassettes (the previous owner had a habit of writing side playing times on the J-cards). Some of the cassette cases show some wear. What To Do If A Tape Doesnt Play Well: If you play a lot of old audio cassette tapes, you probably already know this. The cassettes are little machines and machines sometimes need a little maintenance. FAST FORWARD/REWIND: Before playing an old cassette for the first time, its a good idea to make sure the tape on the spools is wound evenly. Its a good idea to fast forward the tape all the way to the end and then rewind it all the way to the beginning to eliminate unevenness in the tape on the reel. If you dont do this for every cassette, at least do it if the tape seems to be dragging when played. PRESSURE PAD MAINTENANCE: The felt pressure pad beneath the tape at the center of the cassette plays a role beyond its size. Always inspect the cassette to make sure the pressure pad is in place and aligned properly. Sometimes youll know the pressure pad has come loose because the tape just doesnt sound good when being played. The adhesive that holds the pad on the metal spring can let go after a while. The vibrations and jolts involved in shipping cassettes in the mail can help loosen pressure pads that are just barely hanging on. If the pressure pad has come loose, find a pair of tweezers and some glue. (If the pressure pad is lost, you might have to find one to use in an old useless cassette.) Use something flat (like one of the tweezer levers) to lift the leader tape up enough to get it out of the way. Hold the pad with the tweezers with the non-felt side down. Apply a very small amount of glue to the non-felt side of the pad and carefully place the pad on the tension spring where it belongs. Press lightly and fuss with the pad a bit to get it aligned properly. Let the cassette sit for a while to allow the glue to dry. Lot #139: Vintage Dynasound Cassette Tape Case with Full 14 Volume Set Of 100 Greatest Rock n Roll Hits from 1987 - FULLY PLAY TESTED Comments: The vintage hard plastic case was probably made in the early 1990s and is in excellent condition with some light scuffs and marks. I wiped it down, but there is still a little dust in hard to reach places. The organizer holds 15 cassettes in their cases or 21 cassettes without cases.The cassette storage case was manufactured by the Dynasound Organizer Division of Hartzell Manufacturing of Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Included is the complete 14 cassette collection called 100 Greatest Rock n Roll Hits. The set is in excellent condition. I listened to both sides of each cassette from start to finish. The sound is great and they all played well with one exception to note. Volume 13, Side 1 plays through, but the sound fades out and in, especially toward the beginning of the side (Side 2 of same tape played normally). The tapes are programmed with a short DJ-like intro on each side before the music kicks in. This collection was issued by Metacom Inc of Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1987. I think it was a subscription deal. Along with the tapes, there was an option to buy special folders to store the tapes in. I dont have those folders. The previous owner of this collection placed the tapes in generic cassette cases. (The original packaging did not include cases for the cassettes - the issuer hoped people would buy their clamshell storage folders.) Included with the cassettes are the information sheets that show track listings. These sheets were inside the packaging when the cassettes were originally issued. They are in nice shape but the previous owner wrote on the sheet for volume one which is in a different style than the others. Some of my photos show the back side advertising on some of these sheets. Size: The tape case is a little over a foot long, about 4 1/2 inches wide and about 3 inches high. Lot #144: Vintage Realistic Radio Shack Dynasound Cassette Tape Case with 15 Country Music Tapes Comments: This vintage hard plastic case was probably made in the early 1990s and is in very condition. The cassette storage case was manufactured for Radio Shack by the Dynasound Organizer Division of Hartzell Manufacturing of Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Included are 15 cassette tapes which contain a variety of country music styles. I did visually inspect each cassette to make sure they looked good and the pressure pads were in place. The audio cassettes have not been play-tested and are therefore sold as-is. It is possible that some of the tapes will not play well. Size: The tape case is a little over a foot long, about 4 1/2 inches wide and about 3 inches high. Construction Details: The storage case is made of shiny hard plastic in two pieces. The top/lid is dark but translucent. The bottom/tray piece is slotted to hold 15 cassettes in place in their outer cases. The Radio Shack logo on the top is all black but the border is lighter. Condition Notes: Please closely examine the many photos provided. The cassette tape holder shows a good bit of scuff wear from use but there is no significant damage. I dont see any cracks. The audio cassettes included are sold as-is and have not been tested. Some may be defective (but I expect that most, if not all, should play fine). There is writing on the J-cards on most of these cassettes (the previous owner had a habit of writing side playing times on the J-cards). Some of the cassette cases show some wear. What To Do If A Tape Doesnt Play Well: If you play a lot of old audio cassette tapes, you probably already know this. The cassettes are little machines and machines sometimes need a little maintenance. FAST FORWARD/REWIND: Before playing an old cassette for the first time, its a good idea to make sure the tape on the spools is wound evenly. Its a good idea to fast forward the tape all the way to the end and then rewind it all the way to the beginning to eliminate unevenness in the tape on the reel. If you dont do this for every cassette, at least do it if the tape seems to be dragging when played. PRESSURE PAD MAINTENANCE: The felt pressure pad beneath the tape at the center of the cassette plays a role beyond its size. Always inspect the cassette to make sure the pressure pad is in place and aligned properly. Sometimes youll know the pressure pad has come loose because the tape just doesnt sound good when being played. The adhesive that holds the pad on the metal spring can let go after a while. The vibrations and jolts involved in shipping cassettes in the mail can help loosen pressure pads that are just barely hanging on.
