Denafrips Terminator digital-to-analogue converter in silver finish. The Terminator combines custom FPGA-based processing with custom R2R digital to analogue conversion. R2R DACs are loved by audiophiles for their smooth and natural sound quality, but the DAC chip market has long since shifted to more cost effective, but arguably less natural-sounding technology. The cost of producing chips in small numbers is cost prohibitive and, while there are still some old R2R DAC chips available for product designers to use, those older chips do not live up to modern day expectations of features and capabilities. Denafripss solution was to built their own R2R DAC design but on a macro scale. Terminator is physically imposing by modern DAC standards, but it sounds fabulous offering delicacy and slam as required. It makes voices and instruments sound incredibly realistic and natural. It will play music in pretty every commercially available format and sample rate. It has three types of I2S, USB, AES, coaxial and optical digital inputs and both RCA and balanced XLR analogue outputs, for broad compatibility with a wide range of sources and amplifiers. The silver example is a customer trade-in. It is in excellent condition overall as you can see from the photos with just the odd tiny blemish here and there. The faceplate of the first batches of the Pontus II upgrades still said Pontus, of which this is one of them. These units are full Pontus II Spec. Denafrips Ares II R2R Dac 9/10. I love this DAC! But I see no need in keeping it since upgrading to the Venus II 12th... Yes, it is that good, the reviews are true, so true, I replaced it with a Venus II 12th DAC... I bought the Ares II roughly 1 year ago from Alvin at Vinshine Audio. It does NOT have the latest firmware upgrade, you can do that yourself if you want. Personally, for the money, and owning the Venus II 12th, this Ares II is a steal. It will come in the original shipping box. When I purchased, it did not come with a power cord, but I will throw a good one in for you so you can hook her up right out of the box. The unit is 9 out of 10, no issues, case is scratch free all the way around. I can contact Alvin at Vinshine, and more than likely have the warranty transferred to the buyer, there is roughly 24 months left on it. Happy Bidding!
