Description
CROWN DC-300 SERIES II 2 Ohm Outdoor POWER AMPLIFIER *see note at the bottom- Only about $ 100 more than the other that have no refirb & no warranty - this is a no brainer 30 day return policy if this amp does not work according to spec. Consider it a Budget Replacement for McIntosh mc152. With both units connected to an A/B switch being fed the same CD source going to the same speakers you would have a hard time telling which is which. One thing that you will easily notice is the $ 3000 price difference. Read the many online reviews on this amp or even the original DC-300, you will find nothing but positive. Refurbished & Calibrated by a 30yr Tech with lots of crown experience. Normally we replace the large power supply caps but this unit saw very little usage and tested as good as new, so we left them in. We replaced all the electrolytic capacitors and trimmer pots for bias & DC balance. The last of these Series II units made around 1980 had a couple improvements over the earlier Series II, so I put Series III in the title just to get your attention. These later units had improved input circuitry and adjustable transistor bias trim pots, so you could dial it right in right in the middle of the range, so that if slight changes happened over the next few decades, it would most likely still be in tolerance. Many amps in this power range use a fan, this one does not. Can be ran in 350 WPC mono for BASS applications without the use of a noisy fan as many do. In addition to that, we also upgraded the power cord as shown. The power Amplifier works perfectly. Unit was bench tested for over a week. It was also marketed as a Laboratory Amplifier due to it high accuracy across the entire frequency range. Its no wonder Hi-Fi, Pro Audio, Labs and even the Japanese love this amp. Digital photos of black magnify every spec of dust so rest assured this unit looks fine under normal room lighting. You can easily fill in and paint the mounting holes if desired for an even better appearance. My Tech Ted Chapman did the refirb, here is a recap (no pun intended) 1. Initially, the unit was very clean and did not even require a dust blowout2. No previous work or parts replaced 3. The trim pots replaced were important like any others they do get dirty and can cause problems in the bias circuit4. The main caps were thoroughly inspected for leaks & tested by running amp under high power mode and monitoring a sign wave signal to confirm perfectly smooth with no distortion, indicating a very stable power supply & caps.5. Although the rack ears showed some wear and tear, there was no sign of excessive heat or wear in the electronics.6. You are welcome to contact him directly if needed or myself with the business card on the last photo I also have the original wooden case I will list for $ 50 for any buy it now buyer The early 80s were a high water mark for the Crown Home Stereo Equipment, for example notice the preamp and tuners of this era are bring big money like this ebay auction Crown Straight Line Two Pream… Specifications Overview Output power: At least 155W average per channel into 8 ohms, both channels operating. ... Outdoor amplifier? What are you talking about? A little know fact is when driving speakers more than 30 feet away just the resistance in the speaker wires adds a few ohms to the load that will protect this amp even with 3 or 4 pair of 8 ohm speakers being used. It is similar to pushing in an amp protection switch on a speaker switch box, without reducing the sound level by 3DB. Remember this works only if your speaker wires are over 30 ft long going to the other rooms or out into the yard, thus the Outdoor in the title. You can easily verify this using an impedance meter (not an ohm meter) Connect your 3 or 4 pair of speakers to your speaker switch box, then connect meter to the amp in connection. Engage all speaker switches, it will not go below 4 ohms. However, even driving 4 ohms at medium to loud volumes requires a beefy amp like this one. While the MC152 amp will do the same, the owners treat their $ 3,500 amp like a prima-donna and would be scared to even attempt such a feat, making it virtually useless in such applications. The amplifier will be professionally packaged using Foam in Place to ensure no damage will occur during shipment. International shipping discount thru ebay Global program.
