Dass eine externe PhonoVorstufe nicht die Welt kosten muss und dennoch klangliche Bestmarken erreichen kann, beweisen NAD mit der PP 2 für 100 und Creek mit der OBH 15 für 235 Euro. Beide zeichnen sich durch externe Netzteile aus, wodurch sie neben dem Plattenspieler stehen können, ohne die empfindlichen Tonabnehmer-Signale durch magnetische Einstreuungen des Transformators zu beeinflussen. So kann das Phonokabel sehr kurz ausfallen, was dem Klang zugute kommt. Bei der Creek OBH 15 kann der Kunde zwischen zwei Netzteilen wählen, dem OBH 1 für 33 Euro und dem OBH 2 für 75 Euro. Es empfiehlt sich, das größere, geregelte OBH 2 zu kaufen, da es zu deutlicher Klangsteigerung führt. Konsequent ist bei beiden Vorstufen die Trennung zwischen MM- und MC-Eingang. Noch aufwendiger ist die Creek konzipiert. Ihr spendierte Chef Michael Creek sowohl für den MM- als auch für den MC-Eingang jeweils eine separate Schaltung, zwischen denen per Schalter das Signal auf eine passive Entzerrung geleitet ist, um danach eine weitere Verstärkung per Einzeltransistoren zu erfahren. Die zwei Mono-Operationsverstärker OPA 134 von Burr-Brown verstärken in dieser konsequenten Auslegung nicht, sondern verringern nur den Ausgangswiderstand, was lange Kabel zum Hauptverstärker erlaubt. Klanglich verblüffte die NAD sowohl über ihren MM- als auch den MC-Eingang. Dynamisch mit unbändiger Spielfreude stieß sie in die Spitzenklasse vor. Dass ein MC-Eingang in dieser Preisklasse so gut klingen kann, war für die Tester eine dicke Überraschung: schlichtweg eine Sensation, die stereoplay ein ebenso fettes Highlight wert ist. Die Creek OBH 15 verzückte die Jury sogar mit noch genauerem und mitreißenderem MM-Klang. Dabei schaffte sie es zudem, Klangfarben expressiver zu malen. It is supplied with a selection of snap-on power plugs and since it is capable of working from a range of mains voltages from 100V-240V, we are confident it will make life a lot easier for everyone. We have compared the performance with that of the OBH-2 and feel that it is a good replacement. Furthermore, since it no longer works at mains frequencies (50-60Hz) it will not interfere with high gain circuits like the Phono amplifiers and it also does not draw current when connected to the mains but not being used. We are pleased to say that it complies with the new and up-coming regulations that demand power supply adaptors to be high efficiency switching types.
