Vintage 1980s Counterpoint SA-12 dual channel Tube/MosFET high end Power Amplifier, 80 WPCThis is a classic high end power amplifier designed by Michael Elliott. Set up properly and broken in this sounds pretty magical. Very smooth and tube like while detailed and with great soundstage and imaging. Image depth and instrument separation is sometimes jaw dropping. YMMV, but if this had a bit more power for my very power hungry magnepans I would never sell it. This has been almost completely Recapped except the four main filter caps which tested fine and the Wondercaps which measured perfect. Even the small low voltage section and large high voltage section WIMAs were replaced with higher rated, higher performance caps. Both protection relays were replaced, bridge rectifiers replaced, and all mainboard filter caps were replaced. Bias and DC offset were set. If you are interested in tube rolling, this Amplifier uses 6DJ8/ECC88/6922 tubes Will be well packaged to survive shipment. Due to the nature of vintage gear, especially tube gear, no returns will be accepted. There are a number of scratches on the unit, but it looks very good overall. A true high end audiophile gem! This one is clean and really minty! Original owner and purchased new in 1995. Only used in my smoke free, pet free, special listening room. Can use different tubes to optimize the sound to your preference (will require simple bias adjustment of course). Plenty of info and discussions on line about best sounding tubes for this amp. Comes with factory selected tubes which really sound amazing. A tech gave it a thorough once over 10 months ago. He optimized the bias settings based on manufacturers updated spec info and WOW, the sound SPARKLES now. Very dynamic, natural, powerful sound! Had it paired with several different speakers over the years. Sounded amazing with all speakers I tried, especially amazing with the Klipsch Cornwalls, ADS 810 and 1290, Yamaha NS1000M (incredibly clear), B&W floor standing pair, and the big Advents.
