Sony CD Player Model CDP-101 - WORKING WITH FAULT - Read Description. CONDITION IS: SPARES OR REPAIR FAULTY FOR PARTS OR PROJECT ONLY NOT WORKING. Item powers on, CD drawer opens, disc loads and plays, sounds very nice. All appears to be working as it should with the exception of the on/off button. The unit is always on regardless of the switch position. On the circuit board behind the switch is a small capacitor (switch suppression capacitor?) which looks like its burnt out. When the unit is powered on for a few minutes it starts to smell like melting plastic which I assume is caused by a larger than expected current going through the shorted capacitor. Unfortunately I do not have any time to invest in the repair as I am critically overstocked. I think it should be a simple fix to swap out a capacitor, however I have only done a brief visual assessment of item so there may be other issues as yet undiscovered.
