The 7th and 8th pictures are for reference only. Overview This MC cartridge uses a beryllium tapered pipe cantilever for the vibration system by electron beam vacuum deposition method. In the MC-1X, the head shell and other parts are integrally molded of die-cast aluminum to obtain sufficient strength. The cantilever is a beryllium tapered pipe cantilever.The density of beryllium is 1.83, which is 2/5 to 2/3 smaller than that of light metals such as titanium and aluminum, which are usually used as cantilever materials. In the development of the MC-1X/1S, the electron beam vacuum deposition method, an LSI manufacturing technique, was further developed to achieve even higher precision, and a tapered pipe-shaped cantilever, which was previously impossible to form, was successfully made from beryllium.The beryllium tapered cantilever is a 35 micron thick pipe with a 0.3 mm? tip and a 0.6 mm? taper at the base. The stylus has a special Elliptical shape made of solid prismatic diamonds and is polished precisely so that the especially hard crystal axis touches the record groove. A circular air-core coil is used for the coil.This coil is made of lightweight, low intrinsic resistance aluminum deposited on a 70 micron silicon substrate using IC manufacturing technology, resulting in a 20-turn x 2-layer laminated structure. This results in a substrate with a weight of 0.33mg and a smallest outer diameter of 1.42mm? and a thickness of 90 microns, with an equivalent mass of 0.03mg.The coil substrate, which also serves as the armature, is made of pure silicon, which is extremely lightweight, highly rigid, and has a fast sound propagation speed (9000m/sec). The coil is rigidly bonded to a cross-shaped support plate, which eliminates unwanted resonance and the need for grease braking, thereby freeing the coil from problems such as grease leakage and solidification. The root-wing method is used so that the cantilever can concentrate on its vibration transmission function.In this method, two IC coils are attached to the base of the cantilever in the form of 90° open wings. The root of the cantilever is first press-fitted and fixed to the center of the cross-shaped support plate, and the coil of the silicon substrate, which also serves as the armature, is fitted and fixed to the tip of the cantilever. Unlike the case where the coil is located in the middle of the cantilever, the coil is not affected by the resonance mode of the cantilever, resulting in a small equivalent mass and protection from dust and other problems during tracing. The damper is made of a 900µ-thick butyl rubber damper, and the cantilever is press-fitted into the cross-shaped support plate, which is embedded at an appropriate depth. The four arms of the cross-shaped support plate are embedded in the damper at an appropriate depth to provide shear damping between the damper and the support plate, resulting in effective damping that is effective when necessary.The cantilever is suspended at a single point by a special piano wire, and the rear end of the piano wire is firmly fixed by a thick brass holder to ensure a clear vibration fulcrum.The butyl rubber of the damper undergoes minimal change over time and temperature, and combined with the precision construction, maintains its initial performance over a long period of time. The power generation mechanism employs Yamahas unique differential power generation system.This differential power generation system uses a yokeless differential magnetic circuit with samarium-cobalt magnets and laminated IC coils for low distortion and high power generation efficiency. The magnetic circuit uses the Yamaha yokeless dual differential magnetic circuit, in which two sets of magnets per channel have opposite polarity and are placed next to each other. This differential magnetic circuit not only shows approximately twice the power generation efficiency compared to a single magnet, but also has a gap of equal width (0.6mm) with the N and S poles directly opposite each other, so the magnetic flux in the operating area of the coil is perpendicular to the coil and the flux density is uniform, which is much more linear than the curved and uneven flux density distribution when the magnets are next to each other at a 90° angle. The magnets are made of Yamaha-developed energy-saving materials. For the magnet, a strong samarium-cobalt magnet with an energy product of 25 to 30 M0e developed by Yamaha is used.The use of this magnet enables a yokeless magnetic circuit, and even though the magnetic circuit weight is as light as 0.43g, the magnetic flux density at the coil gap is over 11,000 gauss (P-P). Ultra-fine gold wire with low resistance is used for the coil lead wire, and the lead wire is fixed to the body with silicon rubber in the middle to reduce unwanted resonance of the lead wire. In the MC-1X, the shell connector is gold-plated.
