Ive tested various combination configurations.Azure 851C into Azure 851A (with hi-end Audio Quest balanced cables.) Dont want to do anything other than listen to music.Azure 851C into Azure 851N (via hi-end Audio Quest coaxial.) Elvis lives!Azure 851N into Azure 851C via hi-end Audio Quest coaxial for 851Cs DAC features, with 851C output connected to 851A via hi-end Audio Quest balanced cables. Improved DAC than that found on 851N.So you can use it not only as a CD player, but also CD transport and a reference quality DAC. The DAC on this unit is so good, Ive connected an Intel NUC to it via USB. Gives me reference quality sound via apps Foobar2000, Sony Music Center. To get the best out of this unit, good support and cables will be paramount. The listening experience is such, that CDs previously not played for many years will be replayed and heard as they should be. Thrilling and engaging.
