Vintage McIntosh C28 Stereo Preamplifier for Parts/Repair as pictured. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tested by this AV-specialist and here are my findings: All switches and potentiometers could use some cleaning and lubrication. All function and only a few have some static while turning/switching.All high level inputs work great. The Tape 1 illumination does not light.All low level inputs output an intermittent low rumble staticky sound on the right channel(guessing capacitor issue).Several of the low level inputs had one or both channels not work at all until the unit was warmed up.The Tape copy buttons work for sending one tape input signal to the opposite channel but the tape inputs did not send signal to their own output. This may be normal.Headphone output works but does not cut sound to the regular analog outputs. This may be normal.Tape input and output 1/4 inputs on the front are untested.Speaker control relay section untested.Bass, treble, input selection and mode selection, balance and comp all working.Center channel output is quieter than the stereo outputs. This may be normal too. Cosmetically there is a bit of hash on the top of the chassis(rust?), the rca connectors are slightly pitted(normal for these units), the knobs are missing, the face is cracked and a few screws are missing. As it stands, the unit sounds great through the high level inputs and various stereo outputs: clean and warm... typical McIntosh sound. I test AV equipment for a living but it is possible I missed something. Due to the age and condition the unit is being sold as-is for parts or repair. I will do my best packaging (I package fragile electronics regularly) the unit but due to the condition of the face, it is possible it could arrive less intact than it currently is.
