I am the second owner and have really enjoyed these BOSE 601 Series 1 speakers. Why am I selling this near perfect pair? I have too many speakers and need to cut back my collection. Examine the pictures of the exact item I am selling carefully, the pictures are part of the description. Note I will include 4 fork-adapters to enable the use of banana plugs or bare speaker cable to the original vintage old-style speaker cable binding posts (see picture of brass forks). Many who have heard the model 601 believe these to be the best speakers BOSE ever made. I have had the Series II and the Series III of this model, and these by far, are much better sounding, and more solid than those later 601 series 2, 3, 4 that have plastic veneer, and cheaper cost-cutting components. My 601 series 1 speakers are solid walnut veneer, and the finish is spectacular - see the photos. I have rebuilt the grills and recovered them. (If you know these speakers, you know that the top-facing grill is often caved in from setting purses and junk on them - these are corrected, repaired, and reinforced to last forever. New grill cloth covering the grills too. Ive added stout rubber feet from Parts Express to the bottom to protect the front edge and veneer from damage when moving them across the floor or carpet. How do they sound? These were developed in the era of directional up- and front-facing drivers, and in my opinion, sound better than any other Bose speaker of that era, and later. Simple design fills the room nicely packing a punch or presenting melodies precisely how they should sound. I drive them with a Carver 2 channel amp and they like that power, but sound just as nice with a vintage receiver. The BOSE 601 speakers in average working condition typically sell for $1000+. Im pricing these aggressively to make someone happy who knows what they are, and who can appreciate the work Ive put into, and the care Ive given them over the years.
