New speaker, new LCD backlight Microprocessor circuit modified to accept recharge battery or a bit weaker (not alkaline) battery. Testing it every day. Radio is very pleasure to use. SSB reception is very useful. The BFO tuning edge knob on top works good, easy to use to clarify the sound in SSB modes( USB or LSB)========================================Just a note about the modifications:I have my identical radio with the same modifications and I am happy with it. Radio is very sensitive, SSB mode is very easy to use. After you set the BFO frequency on one SSB station, seldom need to re-touch it for any other station on the same band. I discovered the greatness of this very small radio one year ago by checking the service manual and the features. After that I bought one for $6 and replaced the speaker and started to use. So I created all these modifications after a longer test period. Now I sold a few repaired and modified little radio ( DX-399 and also ATS-606 ) . Buyers are happy and me too because I keep my radio and use it every day instead of other more expensive scanners, shortwave radios. Battery is good for such a long time even with the second LCD backlight LED is on all the time when radio is on.It is consuming only 2 mA. At 7 MHz and in between 3.5 MHz and 4.0 MHz came in a few HAM operators in SSB mode( I turned on the BFO). Parts from my working SB-303 that has served me well for almost 15 years using it every week with my SB-401/SB-200 station. I only had to make a few minor repairs through all the years. Still working when parted out. I acquired a near mint SB-303 as a replacement. All parts sold as is. Clean and deoxit as necessary before using. Sold for parts or not working due to the age of the unit. Please understand, this is a project piece of equipment and no warranty is expressed or implied. It is sold for you to restore or use for parts. There could be other issues with the unit that are yet to be discovered. Will require maintenance sooner or later.
