Restored B&K ST-140 70WPC Stereo Power Amp First (Best) Version - Audiophile Grade Classic Completely Re-capped (all electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high end Audio grade capacitors. Even main filter caps have been replaced with huge 22,000uF Capacitors. For sale is a early/first version B&K ST-140 stereo 70WPC power amplifier in fantastic cosmetic condition. This is the most desirable first version with the killer single 2SJ/2SK output transistor pairs. This is a no frills, no BS amplifier. Power switch, input RCA jacks and 5 way binding posts. Simple black paint scheme with champagne rack handles. Inside is a monster toroid power transformer, two big filter caps, two simple power amp boards.The performance, however, is truly audiophile-grade in a great looking, low cost package! Theres a ton of reviews of these amps dating back to their release in the 80s! Incredible price/performance ratio due to the use of very musical sounding output FETs!The restoration really just consisted of replacing the electrolytic caps on the two power amp driver boards with Nichicon, Elna Silmic and Wima caps, checking over all wiring/solder etc, and replacing the main filter caps. The amp came to us in basic working order, just needing a new fuse holder, but certainly benefits from changing out the old failing electrolytic caps that are in the signal and feedback path. All caps replaced are high end audio grade from Nichicon or WIMA The original main filter caps had dropped from their rated 17,000uF to 15,000uF and so were replaced with 22,000uF Nichicons. The input caps are WIMA film caps. The amplifier performs wonderfully and really sounds warm and tube like with a deep soundstage. B&K ST 140 Stereo Power Amplifier. Just back from electronic service, September 2023, where they replaced parts that were out of factory specifications. They also cleaned and they adjusted DC offset and bias to factory specifications. It cost me $214.34 for the service work. It sounds fantastic. Amplifier is in very good condition. Everything works as it should. I have been using this amp to drive my Magnepan LRS speakers and it does a great job.
