Here’s a nice Audio Research Foundation Series VT80 amp, originally in silver, now in black. I also have what I believe are some original silver trim pieces. If you want those, I will see if i can safely pack them in the original carton with the amp or you can just pay me the extra shipping cost to send a second and smaller box your way. When I got this unit I got in touch with ARC and I ordered the optional tube cage for it along with a new “Certified Matched” tube set featuring the SE-spec KT150 tubes. In the two years since, I’ve put just 57.9 Hours on that factory tube set. As you may know, the early units were sold as VT80 with KT120 tubes (as this one probably was). Soon after launch, they went to the larger KT150 tubes and with that change alone, these units became VT80SE tube amps. There was no other difference between VT80 or VT80SE. The SE came by virtue of a simple tube change alone. I am selling my beloved Audio Research equipment as I have no longer any use for it in my new home. I am selling both an SP9 Preamp and the D-115 Stereo Power Amp, but this auction is ONLY for the SP9 Preamp. It has been single owner since being purchased new decades ago, in a smoke-free home and well cared for. It has not seen much use or any maintenance in a while, but I powered it on and enjoyed it one last time before listing to ensure it works well as-is, and to me it sounds the same as it always has. I have for sale some very rare Audio Research gold plated, machined metal knobs. These are (new old stock) knobs that were in storage for a number of years and have never been installed in equipment. The overall condition of the knobs is very good. Two of the knobs have some minor scratchs on the side which is only noticeable on close examination. The knobs are from the estate of an Audio Research employee. Im selling (4) knobs in my ad as pictured, The knobs will fit any Audio Research preamplifier that starts with an SP and take 4 knobs. Such as the Audio Research SP-4, SP-5, SP-6, SP-7, SP-8 SP-9, Note: The knobs will not fit the Audio Research LS series of line stage preamplifiers. One thing worth mentioning...the knobs have a shiny gold surface, so its very hard to get a good picture of one knob or a group of knobs. Audio Research SP9 MKII Hybrid Stereo Tube Preamplifier *The SP9 was sent to Audio Research in April of 2023 for inspection and a general check-up before listing it on ebay (see picture with specific details of what they addressed and fixed). It was returned in May 2023 with a clean bill of health. I no longer use tube audio gear, and this fantastic sounding preamplifier needs a new home. I’ve owned it for 20 years and am the third owner. Audio Research tested the tubes in the SP9 and they are ok -- there are three different sets of tubes with life left on all of them, and I would recommend swapping them in/out to see what sound you prefer. They also recommended the gain control could be adjusted which I passed on due to it not making any changes to the sound quality.
