I am selling my beloved pair of Audio Research Classic 120 monoblocks. Introduced in 1990, the CL120 is a stunning ARC design. Each amplifier leisurely loafs along while the eight 6550 output tubes produce 110 watts per channel. With these amplifiers, there is no such thing as burning ones hands on the top plate. These tubes are able to run at milder temperatures. This is a very well cared for pair, and their condition is excellent. On one amplifier, you may perceive a very small ding in the metal faceplate right underneath the Line Fuse. Thats the only flaw I know of. If your eyes spot more, you have sharp vision! The power supply of each amplifier was rebuilt in 2017 at Classic Tube Audio in Portland, by the same gentleman who designed and built world-class Whammerdyne amplifiers. Those 6 large power supply capacitors you see in each amplifier are relatively young, not 30-year-old components going wildly out of spec. Concurrently he performed a number of checks and installed high-end ClarityCap capacitors in critical locations for the best sound the amplifiers are capable of producing. Looking at the underneath photo of one of the amps, you can see the Clarity MRs and CMRs that were installed. Additionally, the built-in power cords were removed and replaced with IEC plug receptacles so the audiophile may use what power cord they choose. A couple years ago, one amplifier suffered a blown charging resistor due to a tube that was drawing excessive current. This was also repaired (quite easily) at Classic Tube Audio, along with a better set of tubes. I am including all this paperwork along with the original Owners Manual. All can be seen in the last photo. Since the CL120 has screw-on terminals for speaker cable connection, I am willing to hand over to the buyer my pair of Audioquest Slate 6-foot speaker cables that are terminated on one end with thin spades for use with these amps. You may ask, if I love them so much (and I do), why am I listing them for sale? Pretty simple. Space, life simplification. I am not the first owner of this fine pair, but I have been very dedicated to their longevity and condition. I am willing to ship these, using UPS Ground. The box for each amplifier weighs 72 pounds. eBays calculated shipping rates may seem excessive to you, based on location. If I can purchase the shipping for a lower rate (like purchasing through eBay), I will refund the buyer and shipping overages they pay. The shipping rate is calculated based on 144 pounds with a 25 x 25 x 31 size, the dimensions of both boxes put together. Shipping is to lower 48, Alaska, and Hawaii only. The original boxes, while not absolutely perfect, are in good condition for their age and are 100% usable (the amplifiers have been shipped and transported before, so the boxes have old tape and some shipping scuffs). You will receive the amplifiers packed within them. I am not accepting any third-party pickups and deliveries, nor any pick-ups that result in an international delivery. I cant run the risk of this being picked up by an unknown party, damaged in shipping, and the buyer receiving something unworkable which results in a big dispute.
