Description
AVR280 RECEIVER The AVR280 is a high quality and high performance home cinema processor and multi-channel audio ampli?er built to Arcam’s traditional high quality design and manufacturing standards. It combines high resolution digital processing with high performance audio and video components to bring you an unrivalled home entertainment centre. In addition to the built-in tuner, the AVR280 allows switching and volume control of seven analogue and six digital sources, making it an ideal companion for both home cinema and two-channel stereo systems. Since many of these source components are also capable of outputting high quality video signals, the AVR280 includes broadcast quality video switching for composite, S-video, component, RGB- and HDMI-video signals. There are inputs and outputs for both tape and VCR, as well as a digital output. DVD-Audio or SACD can be connected via the multi-channel input. Control of the AVR280 is either by front panel control buttons, IR remote control or an RS232 port (which also can be used to upload future software enhancements). As well as providing the audio and video being used in the main listening area, the AVR280 allows the same, or a different, source to be routed to a second area (called ‘Zone 2’),such as the kitchen, bedroom, lounge, etc. Zone 2 can have full remote control over the source selection and volume in that area. The customised installation of the AVR280 in a listening room is an important process which requires care at every stage. For this reason, the installation information is very comprehensive and should be followed carefully. Its feature list is perfect for mid-size cinema systems, even incorporating the latest HDMI switching for DVD players, set-top boxes or gaming systems.Movie lovers will be thrilled at the dynamic power and sound-staging the AVR280 delivers, while music enthusiasts will be enraptured by its passionate performance. Drawing heavily on the company’s FMJ AV9, DiVA AVR300 and DiVA AVR350 designs, the AVR280 excels in both performance and connectivity. More than ten years of AV design experience has gone into the AVR280. A good example of this is Arcam’s refusal to rely on audio delivery over HDMI. Arcam were one of the first companies to realize the massive sound quality compromise that this form of audio connection currently represents. While video over HDMI can be simply stunning, Arcam currently favour the higher performance Coax or Optical SPDIF connection. For control in larger systems, a full suite of Infra Red (IR) and RS232 control options make the AVR280 a perfect solution for high performance custom applications. Its power amplifier section is designed to deliver clean music power to a wide range of loudspeaker systems from sub/sats to full-blown floor-standing models or in-walls.While main output video switching features both HD compatible circuitry and up-conversion the independent Zone 2 output allows a second room to be fed with both simple audio and video. Featuring independent switching and volume control, the second room or “Zone” can be controlled via its own IR input with source components being passed on by the AVR280’s IR output. The AVR280 is designed in the UK and was manufactured in black and silverTECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSAnalogue Audio80 WPC continuous power output into both 4 and 8 ohms loads, with all 7 channels drivenStereo continuous output power 100 WPC into 4 or 8 ohmsToroidal power transformer and 40,000 microfarads of reservoir capacitors ensure power reserves no matter what the program material6th and 7th channel amplifiers switchable between extended surround, front left / right for bi-amping, or Zone 2Audiophile quality components for best sound quality, including 1% metal film resistors, polypropylene film capacitors, OSCON electrolytic capacitors & double sided, through-plated fibreglass circuit BoardsMulti-channel 7.1 analogue input for DVD-A, SACD or high definition disc playersStereo direct switch bypasses and disables digital processing and ADA conversion for stereo analogue sources7 stereo analogue inputs (plus tuner); 3 tape outputs (one a tape loop)Zone 2 stereo audio, from stereo analogue inputs or internal tuner.
