AKAI 1710 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder Player Vintage Stereo Deck and Speakers. So, salvaged off a clearance, it’s been plugged in and all lights working all buttons working the reels are working too. Akai 1710L Release Date:1967This player is in very good condition especially considering it is over 50 years old!. It has been fully serviced and is in working order ready to use.It still has its original box (although its a bit battered)It also has the original pouch for the microphone and one microphone. I think it would have originally had two but Ive never had the other one.It still has the original spool holders but the rubber has aged a bit so they dont hold like they should. I found that adding a small rubber o ring to the shaft grove overcomes this and gives them a lot more bite but is a bit fiddly so I found it quicker to just use a rubber grommet on each spool (supplied) This is only required if using it in the upright position.PLEASE NOTE: 1) When rewinding or fast forwarding a 7 inch spool, if you stop after about 3/4 way through and then try to search or stop/start, the motor does not like it if it is in high speed mode. I do not know if they is normal or if the motor is a bit lazy as I have not had another to compare it to. It will usually do it but struggles. If you just rewind a full tape it does this really quickly without issue.2) The rubber Capstan has some small micro cracks in the rubber from age but it does not affect its operation and still grips well.
