This Adcom amp is in great cosmetic condition. It powers on as it should and has been serviced. The switch had to be replaced and I was able to source a genuine Adcom part and have it replaced. I’m am selling my baby! Was barely used, works great without any problems. Sounds awesome like no other amp. I recorded a video, please watch it. There is SO MUCH POWER IN THIS BEAST! It also weighs a ton. Cosmetically, it is in good condition given its age. Please check the pics, pics are part of the description of the cosmetic condition. THE TIP OF THE POWER SWITCH IS BROKEN BUT IT DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH THE POWER ON OFF AND WORKS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS AS THERE IS ENOUGH LENGTH LEFT TO OPERATE IT. IT IS ONLY SLIGHTLY SHORTER THAN THE ORIGINAL. I INCLUDED A FEW CLOSE UP PICS AND ALSO RECORDED IT IN MY VIDEO. This beast is going to be professionally boxed in a 200 lbs rated box. Hello Adcom fans, For a limited time, I am offering a Special/ Very Rare Adcom GFA-5802 rebuilt by Adcom Legend Chris Hoppe. Completely rebuilt & upgraded input boards,Power supply, Amplifier boards, Hexfets reseated with teflon insulators- March of 2018. What also makes this 5802 SPECIAL is that its the last 5802 that Chris restored. He does not service the 5802 anymore! This amp has been fed by a Online Eaton UPS since rebuilt. Perfect 120 VAC/60 Hz. There was a intermidant sparking issue that other Adcom service technicians could not find. ....Notes Below Found a lots of little tiny metal flakes stuck to the insulators...just random shop debris, flakes of solder and metal shavings. Poor debris control at the factory. A couple of them had metal burrs on the heatsink surface, and I honed those down flat. Hmm. Then, I came to one that had a big tear in the insulator, and arc-burned metal on the transistor case, and the surface of the heatsink. Bingo! Picture attached. Ive replaced the Hexfet insulators, and the amp is up and running fine again. I am going to want to keep it for another week to put it through another battery of tests and thermal cycles, but I really think this is it. This all makes total sense. The heatsink is anodized aluminum, which is actually an insulator, but its a thin insulating layer. Metal bits puncture through, burn a little, which creates a gap, and then are insulated again. Until you move the equipment. As in shipping, or putting the top cover back on. And Ill inspect and clean & replace the left channels insulators too.Ill let you know how it goes...Chris Some notes about restoring a GFA-5802 | Hoppes Brain (hoppesbrain.com) Here is a example of the work performed from a previous 5802..... Adcom GFA 5802 servicing, known problems? | diyAudio (Phloodpants notes about this amp) Thinking of having your 5802 restored by another Adcom tech? Well this amp went to other techs from the east to the west coast & the work performed was sub par.....The amp was completely disassembled & the short cuts & cheap caps were removed & replaced to Mr Hoppes specifications. This amplifier prompted Chris to stop servicing the 5802 due to his meticulas nature. So many problems resolved. If the amp does not sell I will keep it. Gone is the grainy sound that develops due to dried out capacitors--The amp sound is clear & powerful particularly at listening levels. So if you have been waiting for a quality 5802 than this is the one! The performance of this amp is beyond OEM specifications. (Do not settle for a 5802 with crusty old Capacitors & out of spec heat stressed components) Variable speed cooling fan included) Tired of seeing 5802s with Sounds awesome tested etc.......Yeah Right The 5802 is 29 db-The GFA 565 is 27 db along with the GFA 585 & was built 10 years later....Which is what makes the 5802 special & was the last built by OG ADCOM before they sold out. No flakey non paying bidders at the end of the auction-No low ball offers-Buy it now only please...... Before making an offer please consider: rarity and condition, sound quality, and the new law where everything sold over $600 is reported to the IRS and the seller gets 1099 (in my case) pays 30% tax.
