Hello Adcom fans, For a limited time, I am offering a Special/ Very Rare Adcom GFA-5802 rebuilt by Adcom Legend Chris Hoppe. Completely rebuilt & upgraded input boards,Power supply, Amplifier boards, Hexfets reseated with teflon insulators- March of 2018. What also makes this 5802 SPECIAL is that its the last 5802 that Chris restored. He does not service the 5802 anymore! This amp has been fed by a Online Eaton UPS since rebuilt. Perfect 120 VAC/60 Hz. There was a intermidant sparking issue that other Adcom service technicians could not find. ....Notes Below Found a lots of little tiny metal flakes stuck to the insulators...just random shop debris, flakes of solder and metal shavings. Poor debris control at the factory. A couple of them had metal burrs on the heatsink surface, and I honed those down flat. Hmm. Then, I came to one that had a big tear in the insulator, and arc-burned metal on the transistor case, and the surface of the heatsink. Bingo! Picture attached. Ive replaced the Hexfet insulators, and the amp is up and running fine again. I am going to want to keep it for another week to put it through another battery of tests and thermal cycles, but I really think this is it. This all makes total sense. The heatsink is anodized aluminum, which is actually an insulator, but its a thin insulating layer. Metal bits puncture through, burn a little, which creates a gap, and then are insulated again. Until you move the equipment. As in shipping, or putting the top cover back on. Well this amp went to other techs from the east to the west coast & the work performed was sub par.....The amp was completely disassembled & the short cuts & cheap caps were removed & replaced to Mr Hoppes specifications. This amplifier prompted Chris to stop servicing the 5802 due to his meticulas nature. So many problems resolved. If the amp does not sell I will keep it. Gone is the grainy sound that develops due to dried out capacitors--The amp sound is clear & powerful particularly at listening levels. So if you have been waiting for a quality 5802 than this is the one! The performance of this amp is beyond OEM specifications. ADCOMGFA-5802 AMP and GFP-750 PREAMP (ADCOM FLAGSHIPS):These are considered to be the best amp and preamp that Adcom has ever produced, and the examples offered here are in pristine condition. GFA-5802 AMPLIFIER: The Adcom GFA-5802 is a High Current MOSFET amplifier designed by the legendary Nelson Pass. It is the best example of the companys effort in stereo amplifiers. It has balanced and single-ended inputs, with two pairs of sturdy gold binding posts per channel (for bi-wiring, if desired). 300Watts per channel into 8 ohms, 450 Watts into 4 ohms. This amp can handle any speaker. Bass control is superb and the overall sound is detailed and transparent. GFP-750 PRE-AMP: Also designed by Nelson Pass, also utilizing MOSFET architecture. This is a purely analog preamp. It can be used in passive mode (i.e., it will function as a “straight wire with attenuation”) or it can be used as a conventional line stage preamp. It has balanced and single-ended inputs and outputs. Note: This GFP-750 preamp is the BLUE CIRCUIT BOARD version. This BLUE circuit board preamp is considered superior to the RED circuit board version that was produced later on and at a different facility. More information about this is available online. This amp and preamp set comes with the original factory remote control with new Duracell batteries installed. These original remotes sell online by themselves for $100 (each). ADCOM GFA-5802 2 channel Stereo Amplifier - 300 Watts / Channel at 8ohms. Enough power for the hungriest of speakers. Was paired with an Adcom GTP-500II. It is used and in excellent condition.
