This is the original headshell taken from an Acoustic Research XA Turntable. The plastic steps locking the collar socket are stripped down so it is not working and you will need to repair the plastic steps before it can be locked into the collar socket again. All the wires and connections are checked based on a continuity test using a multimeter, and they are working fine. There are three cracks on one of the screw holes. You will need to repair that as well so a cartridge can be properly mounted onto it. Other than these issues, the headshell is in overall good condition. The headshell can be used in Acoustic Research XB turntable as well. The headshell is being SOLD AS IS for REPAIR/PARTS, NO RETURN. It will be packed well to ensure safe arrival to destination. The item will be shipped to lower 48 states ONLY. Please examine all the pictures carefully before buying the item. If you have any questions, please ask them before making the purchase. AR-XA Acoustic Research Turntable Record Player XA 61626 Looks like its missing a badge in the front. This phono doesnt come with a head, cartridge or a needle. Plugged in, motor spins however the motor belt is stretched and platter has to be started manually. The wood looks good, tone arm looks good. Would be a great early AR-XA restoration project. Vintage Acoustic Research AR-4XA from Motown Office 1975.Much loved speakers that were in my office at Motown in 1975 then used at home but after a house move in 2005 they have been unused and in storage. Some very minor wear and tear on the back corner of one speaker cabinet but they look in excellent condition and were always great speakers.

Dad probably bought this turntable about 1967 if the number stamped underneath is a date code. It contains 67 which sounds about right. It was in our living rooms until 1986 or so. The motor still works and the belts are intact! Guess it was designed to survive anything. Remarkably, the foam in the shock mounts still appears to be good also. The oiled walnut chassis has a few minor dents but is free of scrapes or gouges. I did not test the audio: the wires from the cartridge to the terminal block underneath are enameled magnet wire (unshielded) which cant be original. They were run randomly which is exactly how Dad would have repaired it. Shouldnt there be shielded twisted pairs, at least, through the tone arm? I cut them for shipping so youll need to rewire the tone arm for sure now. I believe the Pickering cartridge to be original and I cannot believe the stylus is still good after all our (ab)use. Youll note that someone rebalanced the tone arm by gluing a penny in the cartridge holder sometime in or after 1973. ???? You can spin the platter backwards with the power off, and then turn it on to run it backwards. (Thats how I listened to the backwards message in ELOs Fire on High). I always wanted to work out the physics of why that worked: if its not spinning quite fast enough when you throw the switch it reverses to the correct clockwise direction. This turntable runs at both 33 & 45 RPM: you move the belt on the pulley underneath the platter to select speeds. The tone arm holder also remarkably survived although as you can see in the photos it has been repaired.NO plastic cover is included: it broke in the 70s as I recall.Theres also a pretty good layer of dust caked on this turntable now; there was an AR logo on the front which also fell off at some point.The bottom cover is intact but missing three its screws.Im including a foam record mat which is also NOT original. Please understand that I am not offering returns on this item. Thanks.
