Vintage Acoustic Research AR18S HiFi Speakers - 60 W + Box In full working order with new rubber surrounds. No grills and the AR logo missing also two corners and one side of the cabinets were repaired. - see pictures-The speaker surrounds are made of high-quality rubber, pliable and durable. The mid-range, high range and the bass are wonderful, bass is deep, tight and controlled, although very powerful. One of the best little speaker ever. Over 300 pairs of Acoustic Research Speakers restored and sold. The feedback received for these speakers will best describe them.Exactly as described, great neutral sound and excellent value for money. Restored & packed well. Interestingly the AR18 was considered a great alternative to the Yamaha NS10s for nearfield monitoring duties in 1980s pro studios. It is thought the NS10 won out in the popularity stakes because of their highly identifiable white cone woofers. The Acoustic Research AR18S evolved from the AR/6/7/18 series with an upgraded ferro-fluid cooled tweeter and what AR eventually described as their Universal woofer coupled with a New Look. AR had realized that the previous series were at best utilitarian in look, concentrating on the sound believing that the average buyer was more concerned with How It Sounded over what it looked like...but it dawned on them eventually that the female in the house wanted a speaker to be a piece of furniture as much as a purveyor of sound. They put their heads together and came up with the S series designed to look and sound nice. They succeeded. The 18S has been described as a Nearfield Monitor. And so, over the last twenty to thirty years the 18S has achieved cult status as the must have of bookshelf sized. Mr. Edgar Villchur, the founder of the original Acoustic Research Company invented the acoustic suspension (infinite baffle) principle in 1953, just as they invented the dome speaker. What AR had always been famous for was the neutrality of sound. A good speaker was good with everything and anything, either you play rock or classical music they deliver amazing sound. It was environmentally stored with other audio equipment. The receiver was removed from its box and cloth bag for photos (the vacuum tube windows show carpet reflections). As the photos show, the box and foam packing are fine. One corner is a bit smooshed (photo 4), but the corresponding internal foam (photo 8) is fine. The receiver is double-boxed. Page 10 of the owners manual (photo 11) lists compatible iPod models. The receiver comes with: - AM antenna - FM antenna - remote control - 3.5mm (1/8in.) TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) plug to 3.5mm TRS plug stereo interconnect cable (3.5mm plugs on each end) - 3.5mm TRS plug to L/R channel RCA plugs interconnect cable (3.5mm TRS plug on one end and left and right channel RCA plugs on the other) - power cord - iPod case adapters - dock cover - two (2) foam damping plugs for speaker ports The battery for the remote control was removed to obviate any leakage (photo 10). Ein Paar Lautsprecher - Boxen von Teledyne Acoustic Research. Aus der Connaisseur Series, Modell Connaisseur 20, HH 05161. Die Boxen enstammen einer Haushaltsauflösung, und dürften in den Jahren 1967 bis 89 produziert worden sein (jedenfalls war Acoustic Research in dieser Zeit im Besitz von Teledyne). Das Haus wurde Anfang der 70er gebaut - die Boxen wurden wohl damals angeschafft. Der Korpus besteht aus braunem Holz, mit einer aufgesteckten, schwarzen Abdeckung (wirkt auf den Fotos lila, ist aber tatsächlich schwarz). Abmessungen: Höhe 45,4cm, Breite 28,8cm, Tiefe 19,6cm. Die Lautpsrecher waren noch angeschlossen, und haben auch prinzipiell funktioniert. Jedoch war der Klang fürchterlich, was angesichts des Zustands der Tieftöner auch kein Wunder ist. Geeignet also nur für jemanden, der diese Teile erneuern möchte. Verkauf mithin als defektes Bastlerobjekt. Versandkosten 20,-.
