This is a used Sony LocationFree LF-V30 Base Station in working condition. Tested with a PlayStation Portable (PSP), and works perfectly with a PSP. Includes:LF-V30 Base StationVertical mountPower supplyManual, box, software and IR blaster not included. You will need to source your own IR blaster if you want to change channels through PSP controls. What is this? This is a device that allows you to connect up to two separate audio/video sources in order to stream the audio and video over a home network across a LAN or act as an access point for a PSP. You are not required to stream video. Audio-only is possible by not connecting any video at all. For example, as a private radio station. Video could be used for up to two CCTV cameras with composite video. Video Inputs The LF-V30 accepts Composite, S-Video, and Component video inputs with stereo audio input. The base station can act as an access point for direct connection wirelessly using a PSP. This allows a PSP to act as a remote viewing device. Up to two IR blasters can be connected so you can change channels or control the remote device through the PSP controls. Please note: This item originate from an era before the advent of HDMI. There is no HDMI or VGA input possible. You will need to acquire an external HDMI to Component/Composite/S-Video converter (not included) if you wish to stream an HDMI source to your PSP. IR Blaster (Not included) An IR blaster is just an infrared extension that connects to the base station. This is cheap and easily lost. It simulates an infrared remote by placing it in front of the device sourcing the video, and up to two can be connected to control two sources when switching between Video 1 and Video 2. (Two separate video sources can be connected tot he base station, and the PSP can switch between them.) An LF-V30 manual might be available online. No manual is included. The PSP remote must be one that the LF-V30 supports or else it might not work correctly. Given the age of this unit from the 2000s, it only recognizes infrared remotes up to that time. You might need to be creative if trying to emulate newer infrared remotes. Ethernet Port One RJ-45 LAN port is available for connecting this to a home network for streaming across the network. It will be up to you to figure out how to make this work because it requires proprietary Sony software, which I no longer have. All SSID/WEP Key/LoginPassword/MAC addresses are printed on a label on the side of the unit. Video Quality Please note that this is not a high resolution device, so please do not expect the latest 4K sharpness or anything of the sort. If streaming to a PSP, image quality will be limited to a somewhat, slightly blurry, composite-quality image. Watchable and okay for the era, but not the best by todays standards, so please do not expect miracles. It is fun watching remote video on a PSP for the novelty alone. It is also possible to connect a PlayStation 2 to the base station and watch the video on the PSP, but there is a 5-second latency between PS2 button presses and actual response in the video, so it cannot be used to play games with the PSP acting as a monitor. For plain video playback, it is fine. Audio and video are in sync with each other. The PS2 cannot be controlled using the PSP buttons in order to play games. That will not work. Audio Quality It is stereo, but headphones are recommended for the best sound quality. The test PSP did not seem to have loud audio, but headphones were better. I noticed a ground hum, but that could be a faulty cable since I used older equipment to test this unit. Please have a group loop isolation on hand just in case if this occurs and it bothers you. Cosmetic Appearance This LF-V30 has been used, and it shows signs of wear. There are minor scratches on the unit, but it does not affect performance. All LEDs illuminate as they should. PSP Connectivity The PSP must have the LocationFree software installed, which most have it installed by default as far as I know. Setup takes some time initially and might take a few tries, but once paired with the base station, simply select LocationFree in the PSP Home menu and start watching. I recommend using the base station as an access point to let the PSP connect to it directly instead of over a network. The PSP itself provides instructions about how to pair and connect a PSP with the base station. The LF-V30 can be finicky to set up and there are better options these days for media streaming, but this is an interesting conversation piece to add to your collection if you are a Sony collector or PlayStation enthusiast.
