Disassembled transport and cleaned sticky grease from reels, gears, and plastic brakes. Re-glued felt brake pads. Changed out electrolytic capacitor C906 on the power supply board, prone to leakage. Cleaned tape detection and door switches. Cleaned rotating drum and capstan. Cleaned headphone volume potentiometer. Verified playback, recording, of DAT tapes, and remote control operation. Up for auction is a used Sony DTC-59ES DAT (digital audio tape) deck. Powers on. To test it, I inserted a tape using the remote to open the cassette door and, after inserting the tape, nothing would work. The tape then would not eject. I opened the top cover and eventually was able to extricate the tape. During this, the cassette door became detached from the transport tape loading mechanism and now wont stay closed. While the cover was off, I was able to see two intact belts. No other testing was done. Original RM-D57A remote control is included. Cosmetic condition is very good- 2 of the vinyl veneer strips on one side panel are partially detached but can easily be reattached with contact cement or glue. Offered AS IS FOR PARTS/REPAIR.
