Offered for your consideration is a vintage UTAH OE specification number 512655-3 12 inch Alnico magnet woofer, USA-manufactured in 1965. As I’m sure you know, UTAH was a leading supplier to the domestic speaker industry from the early 1960’s through the late 70’s in addition to making their own speakers.Based on the EIA source/date code on the mounting flange, 328532, this woofer was made by UTAH (328) in the 32nd week of 1965. It was removed from a large SEEBURG DWS2 speaker.So, please have a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this outstanding UTAH Alnico woofer should be yours. This UTAH woofer is in clean, excellent condition. The sturdy, deep set paper cone is structurally perfect with only some discoloration at center—caused by being mounted behind a protective crossbar on the baffle—and the voice coil dustcap is flawless, as pictured. Plus, the fabric-roll accordion-style surround is permanent textile instead of the fragile foam that was widely used in that era. Also, the steel basket is finished in attractive blue enamel, including the huge bell covering the magnet’s keeper, and its in great shape with no dings, scratches, or rust. And, the negative +/- terminal appears to be SEEBURG-specific female, but can be snipped-down to leave a standard male spade. Overall, this vintage woofer is exceptionally well preserved. Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds very strong with clear, detailed lower midrange, solid low end, and the warm vintage tone that keeps Alnico drivers in such high demand with those that know. And, I tested its DC resistance at 4.7?, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket measures 12¼” diameter, it stands 6½” tall, and the four mounting holes are spaced 8¼” adjacent (skipping a hole) / 11¾” on the diagonal apart, c-t-c.As pictured and described, this splendid UTAH 12” Alnico magnet woofer is offered at a competitive price. It give a percentage value of gm for the tube under test and checks for shorts and grid emissions. I also use a Tektronix curve tracer for testing triodes. I give a number of evaluations for tubes. One evaluation is a screen shot of the tube with a high voltage applied to the plate. This helps the buyer see the linearity of the tube in question at the highest voltage the tube will see in a real circuit. The Curve tracer steps the triode through 10 gate/grid voltages starting with -10 volts and going to 0 volts. The lines show how the tube conducts throughout that range. At 0 volt the tube is at max conduction and is the top line on the display. It is easy at that point to take where that top line intersects the plate voltage, find the milliamp level and compare it to the datasheet. I give those numbers for you in the Item condition box. To further help the buyer I also include the Design values, for gm and ma readings in the table. This can then be compared to other tube sellers using inferior test methods such as Hickok,  Amplitrex, and other testers. The Tektronix curve tracer gives values within 3% of the actual value. The very best portable testers only can approach 10% accuracy.5.    Please note: The numbers given for gm are what I see on my tester.
