Quad 44 pre amplifier immaculate, recapped. Beautiful cosmetic condition - no significant dinks or dents anywhere. See photos. The unit was re-capped by the excellent Peter Hickman at Fidele Audio. A classic Quad 44 pre-amplifier which I was going to use in a second system but had a change of plan. The amplifier is in very good condition with some light wear to volume dial and tilt switches as pictured and some paint loss to the metal cover. These obviously have no effect on the operation of the amplifier. It is working really well and has a very good phono stage.I am also selling my quad 306 power amplifier which is a great match. If you buy both, I am happy to combine postage. Quad 44 Preamplifier Fully Serviced, Repaired and Upgraded by Amplabs at a cost of £165: The service details are as follows: Physical external condition on receipt: Fair for age. Lower section of rear panel sub-assembly has corrosionon screws and internal struts and side of output panel.Initial faults: No sound on LHS and distorted sound on RHS.Action taken: Chassis & modular PSU dismantled & released from sleeve. Cleaned away carbon residuefrom PSU interior and fitted replacement long life 300Vac XY- rated, ceramic mains suppression capacitor.Removed corrosion from rear back plane assembly and fixings. Replaced corroded fixing screws. Signaloutput panel dismantled from back plane and corrosion cleaned away from outlet. Replaced corroded 4-pinDIN socket and fitted it to the outside of the panel for improved insertion depth. While the output panel wasaccessible, fitted RCA outlets in parallel with 500mV Din outlets.Carried out DC and AC signal tests to isolate faults: Missing signal on LHs traced to faulty op-ampsreplaced Op-amps and fitted IC holders. Balance control, Tilt, and filter level & select switch contacts cleaned& lubricated. Resoldered through-hole links on motherboard backplane. Input modules dismantled and rearconnection plane contacts cleaned. Din socket mouldings cleaned with IPA to remove, light-growth. Checkedvalue and ESR of set of electrolytic capacitors, replaced set of decoupling caps.
