The Luxman SQ38F is a vintage, exceptionally good all-tube control amplifier produced in Japan in 1970, during the “Golden Era” of Japanese HiFi audio equipment. Both the Luxman brand and their line of tube amplifiers are renowned for their exceptional performance, especially in the mid range, and are generally considered “world class” by critics. The SQ38F is loaded with tubes and features 4x 50CA10, 2x 6DT8/6AQ8, and 2x 6267 vacuum tubes and 4x 12AX7, 4x DS16A, and 4x DS16C diodes. It has a rated output of 30W + 30W (4?, 8?, 16?). The SQ38FD was handmade in Japan and features a quality of construction you can immediately notice, as is expected from Japanese audio equipment from this period. Here is a list of what has been done to this integrated by Rick Onslow, a local Montreal tech who is specialized in tubes and has been in operation for 30 years. - Replacement of all electrolytic filter capacitors in high and low voltage power supplies. -Replacement of blockage capacitors in the first section - Lamp replacement 2x 6AQ8, 2x EF86, 4x 12ax7(ECC83) - Replacement of the sockets of the Phono 1 and Aux 1 channels, cleaning and re-conditioning of the other inputs. - Manufacture of 2 RCA connectors to connect the preamp with the power section • Disassembling and cleaning potentiometers The only thing Rick did not fix was the sound balance control (could not find a replacement) so the left/right sound control was bypassed. This integrated has been adjusted to run on north america 110volts (no adapter needed) The wooden case is solid and has a lot of charm. The knobs on the guillotine type switches are n.o.s replacements. This integrated is a keeper and can be enjoyed daily for many years to come. Wether you like Jazz, Rock or pop, the beefy power supplies and top condition lamps will allways offer you a truely enjoyable musical experience. This integrated was made at a time when constructors such as Luxman would take all the time needed to deliver the best that could be had. A lot of soldering was made by hand. This would not be possible today. You can find similar Luxan sq38f integrated on ebay, but this one has not been revised or tested it has been recapped from a to z with new lamps when needed. What you are looking at is a source of relaxing yet punchy tube sound that will offer you audio enjoyment for many years to come. This is a heavy piece of vintage audio (22 kilos).
