I will be updating this listing with some better photos mid March, as the current ones dont show how nice it actually is You are buying ULTRA rare TOTR Top Of The Range JVC Quadraphonic Monster receiver 4VR 5456 the 4VR 5456 was the TOTR in the JVC range it is deceptively massive and heavy I have many other TOTR Quad receivers, and i think this is the largest. 100w RMS was a monstrous amount in 1974 1974 and made by the Victor Company in Japan JVC this is the only one on Ebay and unlikely you will see another for a long time sold as is or as seen no warranty expressed or implied whatsoever i have more photos, but can only include 12 here cosmetically it is really nice, much better than you might normally expect for a 70s receiver. as complex as it is, i have tested it to the best of my ability lets start with what seems to be NOT working FM waveband, picks up no stations at all, AM works fine Phono input is noisy on both L and R channels, no idea why, it was fine when receiver was last tested. 1 bulb out in dial illumination wooden case has some marks, one large scratch at the back near the grill, but not beyond a sand down and new lacquer to restore very minor scuff seen on the tuner dial clear panel RHS near CD-4 ( on photos ) , is now polished out ( scuff is completely gone ) a bit dusty inside on the amp sections where the grills are in the lid good points cosmetically the fascia and knobs etc are in excellent very near mint condition even the bottom flap that conceals more buttons, but has very fragile hinges and springs opens and closes exactly as it should. this is a very very rare TOTR top of the range model ( very few were sold due to the huge price of these when new ) the most powerful JVC model ( it is very heavy ) over 25Kg 100w per channel RMS into 8 ohms in Stereo for a 1974 receiver is extremely rare and 50w per channel RMS into 8 ohms in Quadraphonic was also an amazing statistic when the competition could only manage 7-25w RMS into 8 ohms at the time, thats incredibly powerful for any Quad receiver , even more so for a 1974 receiver all 4 discrete amplifiers seem to be working well sound from CD (Aux) can be played through all 4 (or 8) speaker outputs and sounds really good both the CD4 Quad matrix Matrix 1 and Matrix 2 ( Quad emulators ) seem to be working ok both in Matrix 1 and Matrix 2 and produce controllable surround sound through the the potentiometers and sliders, The SEA equalizers are also working perfectly, there are 2 stereo equalizers, one for front other for the back. sliders and potentiometers seem quiet and noise free headphone output works fine oscilloscope outputs, FM inputs, and some other weird functions were not tested , there really is too many functions on this monster receiver for me to test fully. anyway the important things to note, is i could not pick up any stations on FM and phono input is noisy, i do not know if the problems are related, when i last tried this receiver out a few years ago both FM and Phono were working fine. It has malfunctioned while dry stored in a box in a heated house, it has never been stored in an attic or garage. cash on collection is preferable but I will post if necessary, I have posted other monster receivers all over the world in the past so can pack well.infact I could use a very good lined box that i just received a 27Kg receiver in from Germany.( as about same size )incredibly heavy as it is, but only if you pay by bank transfer, and postage is AT YOUR RISK.otherwise its cash on collection. im not selling it cheap or cheaper because TOTR ( Top Of The Range )Monster receivers of any brand are highly sought after and are never cheap.and are going up in value much quicker than collectors that missed the boat expected No collector really wants to settle for having second best to the TOTR, so TOTR usually costs the buyer twice that of the second to the top, regardless of the brand.although most people these days have no choice in doing so due to the very high price of the TOTR models it is for sale as priced., if you want to own it , as is then you need to find the funds to buy it.its actually a regrettable sale, if it sells, as im having to sell some good stuff now to pay for other more important repairs and restorations. and I know once its gone I will never find another again.
