Up for auction is a high serial number Nakamichi BX-300 3 head stereo cassette deck. The deck is fully serviced and the following repairs have been done: - Cleaned the heads and pinch rollers. - Checked the heads under microscope, they are in excellent condition. - Adjusted the playback and record heads for correct height and azimuth. - De-carbonized the reel and cam motors. - Replaced the back tension belt and cleaned the capstan belt, checked the motor speed, W&F is 0.025% to 0.030%. - Upgraded the idler tire to gear idler. - Lubricated the transport mechanism. - Installed an illuminated backplate cover into the cassette compartment (took it from a DR-3). - Replaced the electrolytic caps using Elna Silmic II in the audio circuit section, United (Nippon) Chemicon caps in the logic circuit and Nichicon FG/FW in the power supply sections. - Replaced the orange PP caps using Wima PP caps. - Increased the value of the +12V power supply filter cap from 4700uF to 6800uF and -12V from 470uF to 1000uF. - Increased the value of the eight Dolby power supply filter caps from 100uF to 470uF each. - Increased the value of the playback amp power supply filter cap from 100uF to 470uF. - Increased the value of the record amp power supply filter caps from 10uF to 100uF. - Upgraded the 1uF electrolytic caps in the audio path using Wima film caps and added in parallel with the 10uF electrolytic caps 0.47uF Wima film caps. - Cleaned the potentiometers using deoxit D5. - Replaced the bad bias fine potentiometer. - Adjusted the electronics for correct levels and bias using TDK D/SA/MA-X tapes. All the functions are operating as they should be, playback, record, ff, rew, pause, counter, timer, dolby b & c, pitch control, bias fine, auto repeat. The sound and the stereo image are great, the bass is tight, the vocals are very defined, the high frequencies are crystal clear, both in playback and recording modes. The cassette mechanism runs smoothly. Externally the deck is in almost excellent condition. This is a 120V model, S/N 53480, production date 1987. With the deck are included the old parts and the original owners manual. All the questions are very welcome. I moved recently in US from Greece, where I was working in Greek Nakamichi service during 90s and I have all the necessary professional equipment (original test tapes, oscilloscope, wow & flutter meter, distortion meter, frequency response meter, CR-7 test unit, 1000ZXL test unit). Nakamichi BX-2 Two Head Stereo Cassette Tape Deck for Parts or Repair **Powers Up** This auction is for a Nakamichi BX-2 Cassette Tape Deck, as pictured. Please read description completely to understand what youre buying, since its being sold as-is for parts or repair. Very clean unit in great physical condition, other than a few scratches on top. Powers up fine, panel switches all engage properly and their lights come on, audio level LEDs are functional, and counter display works with good digits all across. When trying to play a cassette, machine will move tape for a couple seconds and output audio, then play disengages on its own. Same situation with fast-forward & rewind, tape rolls for a second or two in those modes, then switches disengage. Tried using several different cassettes, all with the same result. With no cassette in the well, the right spindle seems to spin fine continuously in both play and FF, and left spindle spins briefly in REW. Removed cover to inspect but didnt notice anything obvious causing the issue, belt is attached to motor, so I dont know what the problem might be, no attempt was made to troubleshoot. The eject switch sometimes sticks if pressed all the way in, but that can be prevented by just tapping the switch about halfway when ejecting tape. I looked up the BFA2L36 & BFS7B12 part numbers on the motors, which seem to be the same numbers used on BX1, BX100, BX125, BX150 and BX300 decks, so those parts may be compatible with decks other than this one, but please do your own research regarding that to be sure.
